Epic Tour de France mountain experience!!

What a fabulous week of iconic Tour de France mountain climbs. They bill this as a ‘dream maker’ tour and the support team ensured that, with good bike maintenance, quality food and frequent hydration, attentive medic advice and plenty of positive encouragement, everyone had their best opportunity to conquer these famous climbs. The mixed ability group soon bonded and everyone was there to cheer (me) the last person over the line … And then briefly rested in beautiful hotels.
Don’t underestimate this ride … it is tough, epic and emotional in equal measure. Congratulations to the Braking Away Team for putting this ‘French Edition’ together. I’ll probably be back next year for the ‘Italy Edition’ … nuff said!!!

Tour De France 10 icons review

My experience with the Braking Away team was on the Tour De France 10 Icons, boy does it live up to it's name. All of the rides were epic in some shape or form and with some great vistas. The organisation and support from all of the braking away team was second to none, they were on hand to our every need, from mechanical to medical. Friendly and supportive you can tell they have a passion for cycling - and they truly are dream makers. I'm not the greatest cyclist but they helped me get up and fulfil my bucket list, thank you guys!

A cycling dream come true in the French Alps

'I can't recommend Braking Away Cycling Tours highly enough after completing their 10 Icons France Edition. As someone who has dreamed of riding the legendary Tour de France climbs, this trip exceeded every expectation.

From the moment we arrived, everything was incredibly well organized. Gordon, Ciara, Amedeo, Steve, and the entire team made sure every rider felt supported, no matter their pace or experience. The logistics were seamless, allowing us to focus on what we came for—riding some of the most iconic roads in cycling.

The support on the road was outstanding. Whether it was food, hydration, mechanical assistance, encouragement on the toughest climbs, or simply a smile when you needed it most, the crew was always there. They genuinely cared about every rider's success and safety.

The route itself was unforgettable. Climbing legendary cols like Alpe d'Huez, Galibier, Bonette, Ventoux, Madeleine, Glandon, Télégraphe, Joux Plane, Colombière, and Izoard was the cycling experience of a lifetime. Sharing those roads with an amazing group of people from around the world made it even more special. We arrived as strangers and left as friends.

The hotels, meals, and daily organization were first-class, and every detail had clearly been thought through. It was the perfect balance of an incredible physical challenge and a memorable vacation.

If riding the iconic Tour de France climbs is on your bucket list, this is the tour to do. Thank you to the entire Braking Away team for helping me achieve a dream I'll never forget. I already can't wait for the next adventure.' Angela

Paul Rilstone returned in 2026 to conquer The Dolomites and Italian Alps. He had previously bagged our 10 French Icons in 2025. It was a pleasure to welcome Paul back and watch him ease his way up some of the most difficult climbs in europe. A true gentleman and inspiration to us all. Chapeau Paul. See you next year.

Magnificent Cycling Tour

"Excellent tour in every regard. In 2025 I did the Braking Away French Alps 10 Icons tour. It was everything I had hoped for. Great routes, food, hotels, road support. All at a very reasonable price. Great crew. What can I say…it was so good I returned this year to do the Dolomites version of the 10 Icons. If anything, it was even better. Magnificent vistas and again great road support, etc and even better food. I plan on returning next year for another tour…what more can be said? In fact, most of my mates from last year returned or are returning this year."

" I really can't praise Braking Away enough. From the moment you arrive everything is taken care of for you, Gord, Ciara and their team look after everything for you and no detail is overlooked. All you have to do is show up ready to ride, and to top it off they're great people, they just want you to have a great time and ensure you achieve your cycling goals. I had a bad cramp on my first day on the Stelvio and Ciara literally ran down the hill, massaged my quad, got me back on my bike with a helping push to finish the last 2 km of the climb.
