Traditional Tibetan medicine

Traditional Tibetan medicine is known not only in Tibet or in Himalaya. In the 20th century this healing system has become popular in Europe and the USA, as the idea of its positive effects has been developed by travellers to Tibet and Asia. And quite many Tibetan doctors have moved abroad starting their practice.

The main principles of Traditional tibetan medicine is similar to another of this kind. The purpose of the healing procedure is to bring back the lost balance of energe which helps the body and mind to be healed naturally.

Tibetan medicine recognizes 5 Lung, or 5 types of energy:
- Life grasping Lung which is housed in the brain keeps a person alive, and is also tresponsible for a clear mind
- Upward moving Lung, housed in the chest, and provides ability to breath and some more functions
- All prevailing Lung, housed in the heart, it provides muscle movements
- Five accompanying Lung in the Somach and abdomen (digestive functies and metabolism)
- Downwards cleanxing Lung in the re**um and perineum, responsible for liquids leaving the body, also wastes, and for pleasures.

Tebetan doctors see any ilness as a condition when one or more Lung is out of balance. They make a thorough diagnostic and define the patology. Then they make a prescriotion, often using remedies made of herbs and other natural components.

Other popular procedures are massage, cleansing of nose, eyes, stomach etc.

Traditional Tibetan medicine is getting more and more popular thanks to its simplicity and mild working, while the results are spectacular.

One can visit a Tibetan medical centre or clinic while travelling in India, for example in Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj.

A very serious God respected by many Hindus - Saturn, or Shani Dev ow they call him in the Jyotish astrology. He keeps the balance of good and evil deeds and helps people in finding a right way of life. Saturday is a Shani day, and devotees rush to the temple to pray this very special and unusual God.

Don't you think sometimes that sacral sites often remind a huge supermarket? You visit a temple where one hardly can find any place to pray because of a dense crowd inside and outside. When you find points of a special meaning such as an image of a deity or a sacral fire, you will be requested to pay quite a lot. Especially if you're a foreigner. No time to stand or sit, no chance to enjoy the energy...

But there is a good news! There are places of Power outside such official temples and holy sites, too! People who feel the energy, create them. For everybody and free of charge!

Look at this small shrine next to the path leading to , at the bank if the Neugal river. It gives energy and support to anybody who wants to meditate in this place. And the river helps to relax even more...

A perfect morning can be like this: waking up by birds singing and river streaming. Doing 5 Tibetan exercises and taking a shower. Making breakfast: pancakes with youghurt and fruit. And having it in the bright mountain sun!

Listening to your favorite music while working a bit... And finally - going up the hill with a truly friend with four paws.

Sounds fantastic, right?

Local temples attended by devotees daily can look simple and uncomplicated. No rich and expensive decorations, just ordinary images and sometimes much chaos, too. But the energy is strong and the power of collective chanting and praying is incredible. No new and "official" temple can be compared with it!

In India, many places are sacral cites: mostly we find how they are mentioned in mythes and legends, in the songs' texts and of course in the greatest books of India such as Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Some people have read these epic stories, some haven't. Even those who have, not always understand the meaning of the events which are described in them. While the stories, being ancient, stay popular and modern.

Such as a story about Manthara, an old maid of the queen Kaikeyi. This is she who convinced her lady-boss to demand from the king Dashratha to fulfill her wish which was: to send the eldest prince, Ram away from the city of Ayodhya, and to geive the throne to the Kaikeyi's son, Bharat.

When Ram is visited by his brothers who ask him to leave the forest and to give the last rites to their deceased father, he does as they ask him, but decides to stay in exile. And there comes Manthara who cries and beats herself. She blames her own stupidity for the tragedy of the kingdom.

Ram replies: it's not your fault Manthara. Everybody is responsible for their own deeds. they could have chosen not to listen to you and not to make their decision. So, it's only a will of Brahma that the situation comes our like this. But everybody can be responsible for their own deeds only, and not for the rest.

This a very wise statement which is absolutely true for everyone in our days. Thus, the great epic stories are very up-to-date!

There are brilliant books of Devdutt Pattanaik who narrates and explaines the mythes of India. And there is his brilliant short speech about the mythes and facts!

Himalaya… the name means “snow dwelling”. The level of snow on the peaks is indeed very big and some of them stay covered with snow full time, while the mountains are situated quite nearby the tropic area!

Himalaya is among the youngest mountain chains of the world. It lies in six countries (do you know which ones?) Not only famous mountains like Everest, Kachenjunga and Kailash belong to it but also mountain lakes which lie on altitude from 4000 up to 5200 m! Sacral rivers of India begin from Himalaya. Many monasteries and temples are here. Shiva Himself is believed to meditate in his cave on the Kailash mountain!

Himalaya also gives life: literally, because the mountain ranges protect the inner areas of India from the dryness and help to form the monsoons which allow the nature to revive. Many, many plants and animals have their home in this magnificent mountains!

It’s always worth trekking in Himalaya, even if it’s on a quite low altitude. If your are a nature-lover, this beauty is waiting for you!

Did you granny cook organic food?

Organic food... It's a world trend now. Many food manufacturers with success sell their production visibly more expensive - because it has a lable "organic".
What does it actually mean?

Mostly organic = NO. No chemicals, No hormones, No GMO... Sometimes the list is even longer: no gluten, no cholesterol, no fats, no sugar, no... a thing!
Just if you think about a very simple fact: a negative saying - how can it be good for you?

What is my point? I used to buy vergetables in Europe: one day a week we had an organic market. In the Netherlands they called it "biological". It was not about products WITHOUT. It was about products WITH!

- With wonderful color: light or dark green, sunny yellow, bright orange, juicy red, shiny white!
- With a delightful smell and taste!
- With a smiling, healthy-looking guy or girl selling all that stuff and gladly informing you what for a long forgotten vegetable of their granny's time it was!

So, organic means: NATURAL. Nice, fresh, alive!
Did you granny cook organic food? No she didn't. But yes she did. All food was organic when ot grew in their own gardens and fields.

If we want to have organic food, we certainly need some knowledge. But most of all, we need our energy, our intention to get very tasty food... and to fill it in with love! This is very important!

I have seen enough of organic bread and pastries,. mostly they looked non-edible. believe me! Strange stuff, really. Without anything what can give you pleasure. As if made out of duty.

Bread which we bake is not organic. It's full of tasty elements: very good flour-mix, self-raised ferment for sourdough bread, good quality oil, sometimes seeds... and also it's full of sun, water, fire, good intentions and love for life and the mankind!

Wanna try?..

What do you like more: the road or the destination? The process or the result?

You can say: both. Maybe. But most of the people slightly prefer one of the choices. And can explain why.

Being on the road is fascinating. Because it means: adventure, THE GREAT UNKNOWN which can be scary but so exciting as well!

There are many roads in the world. Highways, narrow paths or a calm street between the houses... A forest road, a desert road and a coastal road. Which roads are very difficult? Those in mountains!
Then why choosing them? Why not to stay home or have a drive on a flat road? Climbing up can be exausting, right?

Yes, but this challenge gives us a feeling that we are ALIVE!

Avalokiteshvara - a Buddha of Compassion

Among the Buddhist saints, Avalokiteshvara is one of the most favorite: many of his portraits and statues are found in countries where Buddhism has been spread. He also has different names in Tibet, China, Japan and Myanma. In China he even is associated with the female figure, Guanyin, the goddess of compassion!

They say: if you recite the mantra of Avalokiteshvara compassion will take place in your heart.
Try to do that while listening to this mantra: the video contains lyrics as well!

Marigolds are very special flowers of India. You can meet these bright orange or yellow flowers in many European countries where they just decorate the gardens. But in India, they are seen as sacral plants which can be used for offering to Gods. Bright, fresh garlands are always there near the temples.

But besides that, marigolds have one very useful qiality: they can scare-off monkeys who decide to visit your garden.

We also have very nice marigold fields at .

Camping as a challenge

In old days, quite many people were travelling with a tent and enjoyed the freedom while sometimes there was not much comfort. Do you remember old-fashioned tents made of special textile? One should first learn how to set them and spend some time on settimg, mostly together with somebody else. It could get wet in the rain, so you was supposed to cover it with a huge plastic sheet.

And the modern tents? You can eaily take them for small houses. They are very comfortable,. light-weighted and can be set in 5 min by one person! Also, great sleeping bags and special mats are the great achievements of the trekking equipment industry!

When you travel to Himalaya, it can be so rewarding to try trekking as well! Staying in a house or hotel is also nice, there's no doubts. But sleeping in a tent under a sky full of stars... enjoying wild herbs and flowers fragrance... hearing the wind in the trees... Isn't it wonderful?

At we have tents for rent and also a field for camping with your own tents. Meals are also available.

Last weeks I have been showing Saint Petersburg to people. Much difference, I have to tell you. Only walking tours, no cars and traffic jam. The weather is totally different to that in Delhi.
I can't say that I prefer this - or that. I miss a lot of places and especially people. What really helps me, is my friends and family support. But still, I try not to think much. Just goint into "fields" and making new routes!
One evening of spomntaneous dances in a group. One evening of drawing mandala's in a female circle. Going to sauna. Attending a birthday party with karaoke singing. Delicious food. My city. Just sadness now and then... How long can you stay without your loved ones?..

In the meantime, please visit the page and like/inlike something of you wish. Or leave a comment. If you do, be sure I'll shoe you the best coffee place in St Pete when you visit (and if I am here of course!)
