We all know about the Great Pyramids of ancient Egypt. Most of us, however, don't know about the great pyramid of ancient India...

Bareilly, formerly known as Ahichchhatra, was mentioned in the Mahabharata as the capital of Draupada's kingdom of Panchala. It was later conquered by Arjuna and given to Drona. Draupada had to shift his capital to Kampilya in Southern Panchala. Ahichchhatra was described as a great city.

Excavations in Bareilly have revealed a massive ancient temple in the form of a giant pyramid. The ruins stand 22 meters tall (for comparison, the Kaaba is 13 meters) and have a lingam at the top. The site covers 187 hectares. By comparison, Roman-era London was only 140 hectares.

If the brick temple ruins are so massive even after their destruction by Jihadi invaders in the 12th century, one can only imagine what the temple must have looked like in its prime. Ahichchhatra is possibly the longest continuously inhabited site in India. The earliest layers of remains, dating back to 2000 BCE, include ochre-colored pottery followed by Painted Grey Ware (PGW). The site thrived for 3000 years until the "iconoclastic trend" in the 12th century. Many Hindu sculptures have been found at the site, which are now in museums around the world. There is a sculpture of Ganga standing on a makara (mythical sea creature). Another is of Lord Shiva depicting the scene of Kiratarjuniya.

When I posted this on Twitter, I was surprised to find that even the residents of Bareilly were unaware of this site. I am truly surprised that these monuments are never talked about and that people are kept in ignorance about them.

India: My Third Trip, Soul Reunited, and Magic Untarnished

It's a fact: after three trips, India has lost none of its power. Accompanied by Indian Vibes Tours and Travels and Divine France India, this latest immersion was, like the previous ones, an INCREDIBLE moment of reconnection and pure wonder.

The magic of Goa, a land of light and contrasts, was particularly striking. We were enveloped by the splendor of its lush flora, the serenity of its endless beaches, and above all, the genuine warmth and disarming hospitality of its people. Their smiles, imbued with simplicity and profound joy, are the very heart of the journey.

Words cannot adequately express the profound experience we had. We spent days in a state of contemplative grace, a bubble of escape where the mind is finally freed from everything except the pure joy of enjoying, observing, and giving thanks. It is a journey that transcends the senses, reaching directly into the soul.

As always, Vivek was the mastermind behind this experience. His attentive and passionate presence, his talent for explaining the stories, traditions, and secrets of this vast country, made each discovery richer and more meaningful. He helped us to love India, to understand its unique energy.

The contrast with the reality of returning home was, this time, far more painful. Leaving the energy and vitality of a country and a people who gave us so much, only to return to a France that seems sad, gray, and depressed, is truly heartbreaking.

A huge and heartfelt thank you to Indian Vibes Tours and Travels and Divine France Inde for orchestrating this exceptional getaway.

One question only: when can we go back?

India has officially been crowned the #1 solo travel destination for 2025, and the world is finally waking up to what millions of travellers have always felt — this country doesn’t just show you places… it changes you.

For those who wander alone, India offers something rare:
a blend of safety, diversity, and deeply meaningful experiences that stay with you long after the journey ends.

In Varanasi, mornings begin with soulful chants drifting across the Ganga. Solo travellers often say they arrived looking for direction… and left with a sense of purpose. The city’s ancient rhythm has a way of grounding you, reminding you of what truly matters.

Move west into Rajasthan, and the landscape transforms into a world of royal grandeur — palaces shimmering at sunset, bustling bazaars filled with colour, and desert fortresses whispering stories of courage. Cities like Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jaisalmer embrace solo visitors with warmth, history, and authenticity.

Then there is Kerala — where the backwaters glide like poetry, coconut trees sway over serene canals, and every breath feels like a reset. Wellness retreats, houseboats, and nature trails make it a sanctuary for anyone seeking peace within themselves.

And this is just a glimpse.
Because India isn’t a destination — it’s a hundred journeys in one.
A place where every state, city, and village offers a unique lesson, a new flavour, a fresh perspective.

From spirituality to adventure, mountains to beaches, heritage to modernity…
India doesn’t just welcome solo travellers — it empowers them.

No wonder it stands tall as the world’s favourite solo travel destination for 2025. 🇮🇳✨
