In the Wa language, “Wengding” means “a place wrapped in mist,” inspired by the vision of white clouds drifting like a lake among the surrounding peaks. In older Wa dialects, it also reflects the identity of “mountain dwellers.” With over 400 years of history, the village remains the ancestral heartland of the Wa people.

Here, clan structures are still intact, and sacred symbols such as village totems, ritual fire pits, and protected forests connect daily life with spiritual beliefs. Every festival and ceremony continues traditions passed down through generation
