Ever wondered why the Leaning Tower of Pisa leans? 🤔🇮🇹

The answer lies beneath it! When construction began in 1173, the tower's foundations were built on soft, unstable soil made of clay, sand, and silt. As the structure grew taller, the ground beneath one side began to sink, causing the famous tilt.

Construction actually paused for nearly 100 years due to wars, giving the soil time to settle. Surprisingly, this delay helped prevent the tower from collapsing! Builders later tried to compensate by making the upper floors slightly taller on one side, giving the tower its subtle curved shape.

Today, after decades of careful engineering and restoration, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is stable and continues to welcome millions of visitors every year.
