la spettacolare Brooklyn Heights Esplanade, nota anche come Promenade, si trova a ridosso dell’East River, sopra la Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, ed occupa cinque isolati, da Remsen Street ad Orange Street. Offre un meraviglioso panorama di Manhattan; all’accesso da Montague Street, trovate una placca che commemora la Four Chimneys, ovvero la magione, situata in questo punto, all’interno della quale George Washington pianificó il ritiro del suo esercito dopo la battaglia di Brooklyn. Fu uno degli scontri più devastanti per l’esercito dei patrioti, che subì una pesante sconfitta. Durante la notte, approfittando della nebbia, Washington riuscì a portare in salvo i superstiti a Manhattan, grazie a delle imbarcazioni di pescatori, che fecero la spola tra i due distretti

the spectacular Brooklyn Heights Esplanade, also known as the Promenade, is located close to the East River, above the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and occupies five blocks, from Remsen Street to Orange Street. It offers a wonderful view of Manhattan; at the entrance from Montague Street, you will find a plaque commemorating the Four Chimneys, which is the mansion inside which George Washington planned the withdrawal of his army after the battle of Brooklyn. It was one of the most devastating clashes for the Patriot army, which suffered a heavy defeat. During the night, taking advantage of the fog, Washington managed to rescue the survivors in Manhattan, thanks to fishing boats, which shuttled between the two boroughs
