July is here! Which, to the Straw hat fans means one thing - Happy Birthday to Nami shwan! 😍💕💰Moe no Sato in Nishihara, A*o is holding a 3 day birthday event for her from the 3rd to 5th, culminating on Saturday with a brass band, food trucks, paper windmill making and a visit from the one and only Kumamon. The hydrangeas are still in bloom and the field of sunflowers is looking great this year so it's a nice time to visit even if you don't want to bow down to the queen 😄

Spotted this beauty at Shirakawa spring the other day, I've been trying to find out what exactly it is and the closest thing seems to be a Mnais copper winged damselfly. In my search I also found out an easy way to distinguish dragonflies and damselflies is to look at how they hold their wings when resting. Damselflies are folded back like this and dragonflies are spread out horizontally.

A few days ago part of the columnar formations along Takachiho gorge collapsed. Luckily this is not an area where people walk or boat close by.

However as a precaution boating was cancelled for a day while a safety check was held and the gorge is now open as usual.

Safety is taken very seriously at Takachiho gorge but it shows you never know what might happen so if you're visiting please stick to the authorised paths and don't ignore any warning signs you see.

One of the beautiful things about visiting Kusasenri on Mt A*o is seeing the horses grazing and enjoying the grassland. I haven't heard of a specific incident but it seems that visitors have not been respecting their space, as since this week there are announcements warning people not to get too close to the horses.

Found these odd jelly like blobs in a patch of grass at Kusasenri on top of A*o today and a Google lens image search tells me it's a mysterious substance called 'star jelly'

A glorious day at Kuju Flower park, so relaxing and such vibrant colour everywhere. May is one of the best times to visit and it should be even better in a couple of weeks as all the roses are in bud just waiting to bloom.
