KWS Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve

KWS Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve KWS Malindi Marine Park and Reserve is the oldest marine protected area in Kenya. Coral diversity in the area is rich with over 140 species recorded.

The park is located about 110km north of Mombasa, the core areas are within the UN Man and Biosphere reserve. The species of fish is over 300. Common habitats include sandy beaches, rocky shores and sea grass bed.

World Rangers Day 2026 | Rangers: Guardians of a Changing Planet

Today, KWS Malindi Marine National Park & Reserve joined partners, stakeholders, and the local community at Watamu Marine National Park & Reserve to commemorate World Rangers Day 2026 under the theme, "Rangers: Guardians of a Changing Planet."

The event featured a procession, tree planting, entertainment, inspiring speeches, and the recognition of outstanding rangers whose dedication continues to safeguard our wildlife, marine ecosystems, and communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all our partners, stakeholders, and everyone who joined us in celebrating the brave men and women who work tirelessly to protect Kenya's natural heritage.

The KWS Malindi team conducted a crop damage verification exercise in Kanagoni and Majahazini villages, Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County.

The team verified four farms affected by elephant crop raids and seven farms damaged by hippopotamus, with maize at the harvest stage being the most affected crop. One farm also recorded damage to cowpea plants.

Affected farmers were advised on practical mitigation measures, including strengthening farm fencing and using safe deterrents to minimize future crop damage.

KWS remains committed to promoting peaceful human-wildlife coexistence through timely response, community engagement, and sustainable conflict mitigation.

Together, we cleaned the Sabaki Estuary, planted mangroves, and raised awareness on the importance of protecting our rivers, oceans, and coastal ecosystems.

Every Shell Tells a Story!

After sea turtle hatchlings emerge from their nest and begin their journey to the ocean, the empty eggshells left behind provide valuable information for conservation efforts.

Our Rangers carefully examines and counts the eggshells during nest assessments to determine how many hatchlings successfully emerged.

This monitoring helps us track nesting success, understand turtle population trends, and improve conservation strategies for these endangered marine species.

Each shell is a reminder of a new generation of sea turtles and the importance of protecting their nesting beaches for the future.
