There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over the Mara at 6am, before the vehicles start moving and the light is still soft gold on the grass. Watching a lioness walk past camp without a single other vehicle in sight isn't luck. There's a place on Kenya's coast where the days slow down on their own.

About 45 minutes north of Malindi, away from the crowds, Che Shale sits between two quiet bays protected by a coral reef. Just miles of soft sand, swaying palms and the sound of the ocean.
