‎WALKING WITH THE SHEPHERD

‎Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4 nkjv)

‎Psalm 23:4 often has been taken as a truth to provide comfort to someone who is dying. I think that is fine. But I don’t think it’s really the primary intent of the verse. In context, it’s a picture of a shepherd guiding his sheep through a dangerous situation.

‎Notice the psalmist David does not say, “Yea, though I collapse and die in the valley of the shadow of death” or “Yea, though I crawl through the valley of the shadow of death.” Rather, David says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death” (emphasis added).

‎David was saying, “I’m going to keep walking. I’m going to keep moving, and I’m going to get through this.”

‎Of course, we don’t like trials. We don’t like valleys. In fact, if we had our way, we would choose to go from mountaintop to mountaintop and from glory to glory. We would go from one happy day to another with no hardship, no tragedy, and no sorrow. But that is not the way it works.

‎Here’s something we need to know: Spiritual fruit doesn’t grow on mountaintops. It grows in valleys. And the real fruit and depth and character in your Christian life will not come through the good times, per se.

‎Instead, it will come from times of difficulty and suffering as you are being conformed into the image of Jesus Christ and are learning to completely trust Him.

‎Maybe you’re in a valley. Don’t panic. Know that it won’t last forever. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, will get you through it. His rod and His staff will comfort you.

‎WEAPONS OF WARFARE

‎“Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears” (Joel 3:10).

‎In this third chapter of Joel, we hear the prophet describe a time yet to come. It will be a time of great harvest on the earth, and this verse describes the catalyst. A plowshare is an agricultural instrument used to till the soil. At this point in history, it was a tool that speaks of one’s vocation. However, the prophet is speaking of a time yet to come. The prophet describes the plowshare as an instrument that will be turned into a sword. The sword is often used in the Bible to describe God’s Word. The only way a plowshare can be turned into a sword is for it to go through extreme heat and then the blacksmith must beat that plowshare into shape. Heat and punishment of the metal turns that plowshare into an instrument of battle. God must do this in each of our lives to be useable as a worthy sword. We are all in a battle–a spiritual battle. Paul describes our battle against the principalities of the unseen world. I believe God is going to raise up many in the marketplace to use their plowshare as a weapon of righteousness in these last days. That weapon won’t be used for destruction, but as a weapon of love. That weapon of love will yield a great harvest in our lifetime. But this is only part of the story.

‎God is also going to turn our pruning hooks into spears. A pruning hook is used in two ways. First, it is used to prune a tree for greater growth and productivity. It is also used to cut the fruit from taller trees in which one cannot reach the fruit. This fruit from our vocation is going to be cast forth like a spear, but even more as seed planted to bring the harvest of which Joel speaks. Fruit from our business life is often the financial rewards generated. God wants to use our finances and everything else for His purposes. We must use our vocations and the fruit that comes from it as seed to bring the great harvest that God is planning.

‎How are you using your plowshare and your pruning hook for the glory of God today? Ask God to show you how He wants to use your skills, resources, and relationships to prepare for the great harvest He has p

‎LIVING FOR JESUS IS A STRUGGLE

‎Living for JESUS is a struggle. Once a person becomes a Christian he or she becomes the enemy of Satan. The spirit world is ruled by Satan. Christians must keep in mind that GOD trumps Satan. Christians can come out of GOD’S protective canopy by sinning. Christians can dabble in the occult and seek power that is not of GOD and they will suffer the consequences. If a Christian comes out from under GOD’S protective canopy can they be reinstated? Absolutely! What does 1 John 1:9 tell Christians?

‎9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

‎As Christians begin their walk with JESUS by placing their faith in HIM, GOD never leaves them or forsakes them. Do not let Satan trick you into thinking because you have done something so bad that GOD does not love you. There is no sin that the shed blood of JESUS does not cover when we place our faith in HIM.

‎Once a person becomes a Christian, he or she becomes an enemy of Satan and he (Satan) does not want us to share the Good News of Salvation with others.

‎Our life upon earth may become more difficult but greater is HE that is in us than he that is in the world – 1 John 4:4:

‎UNEXPLAINED POWER

‎“I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony” (John 3:11).

‎When is the last time God did something in your business life that can only be explained as God? Was it yesterday? Was it just last week? A month ago? A year ago? The answer to this question may mean several things. If it has been some time since you saw the activity of God in such a way that you know it was His hand, you may not be trusting to a level that requires faith. You may not be risking enough for God to show Himself. The converts in the early church changed the world they lived in because of what they saw and heard. It was the power of the gospel that changed lives, not what they learned from mere teaching. This power drew people to Christ. Things happened that could not be explained other than the activity of God. Is that the kind of faith you are experiencing in your life? Many of us live a wholesome, moral life, but the activity of God is not seen by those we associate as anything that cannot also be achieved by themselves. That is why many are not drawn to our lives. The power of God is not evident. The Lord has been challenging me to trust Him at levels I have never trusted before. This level of trust has placed me in a vulnerable position. However, the blessing of this relationship is that I see the activity of God as never before, and those close to me see it as well. It builds their faith and draws others to investigate.

‎Sometimes the activity of God comes in unusual ways. God often sets up scenes that appear to be negative on the front end, but God has orchestrated these events for his glory.

‎_ Without Pharaoh’s pursuit of Israel at the Red Sea, there is no miracle. _ Without Lazarus’s death, there is no resurrection. _ Without Goliath, there are no underdog stories. _ Without Peter stepping out of the boat, there is no miracle on the water. _ Without Judas’s betrayal, there is no resurrection.

‎God wants to show Himself in ways you and I cannot imagine. Let God demonstrate His power in your marketplace today. Then, you will see “all men drawn unto me.”

‎GIVING HIM THE KEY

‎“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

‎A friend of mine tells the story of an encounter he had with a very important government official. He was the head of state for a country. In the course of some meetings with my friend, the official came up to him and said, “I perceive that there is a difference between you and I. Is it because I come from a different denomination?” My friend began to explain why there was a difference.

‎“If you were to come to my home I would invite you in as an honored guest. You would enjoy everything I had in my home as my guest. However, you would still be a guest. You would not have the keys to the home, and your authority in that home would be merely as a guest. However, if I said to you that I am turning over my home to you and you now have the keys to my home. I am now your servant although you have given me the responsibility to run the home through your counsel and direction. This is the difference between you and me,” my friend replied. “I have given Jesus the keys to my home (heart). You have merely invited him in to yours as an honored guest.” “How can I do this too?” the man replied. “All you have to do is invite him in as the new owner.” The man did this and is now allowing Jesus to rule and reign in every detail of his life.

‎So often many of us enter a relationship with God that brings us salvation. This is the Gospel of Salvation. But what God really desires for us is to experience the Gospel of the Kingdom. He wants us to experience His power and presence everyday of our lives and to see His hand at work in us. This only happens when we give Him the key to our life, not just being an honored guest.

‎GOD'S WORD GIVES COURAGE

‎Because of GOD’S Word, I can stand in a world that opposes me.

‎GOD’S Word is powerful. GOD reveals to us in HIS Word as recorded in Hebrews 4:12-13

‎For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account

‎GOD’S Word is the revelation of GOD on an ever ascending scale culminating in the birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension of JESUS and the return of the Holy Spirit to indwell all who place their faith in JESUS. However, we must keep in mind that GOD’S Word is not GOD. GOD’S desire is for all to build an intimate, personal relationship with HIM by placing our faith in HIS Only SON, JESUS. GOD’S Word reveals GOD and those who study it should cherish it but build their faith in JESUS as the path directly into the very presence of GOD. Remember what JESUS told HIS disciple Thomas in John 14:6:

‎6 Jesus told him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

‎IN THE ARMS OF YAHWEH

‎If there be anything that can render the soul calm, dissipate its scruples and dispel its fears, sweeten its sufferings by the anointing of love, impart strength to all its actions, and spread abroad the joy of the Holy Spirit in its countenance and words, it is this simple and childlike repose in the arms of God.

‎UNDERSTANDING YOUR GIFT

‎“Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant” (1 Corinthians 12:1).

‎In 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12, the Apostle Paul is teaching us about the role of spiritual gifts in the church. He correlates these gifts to a human body, telling us that each person’s gift helps the whole body of the church. This is such an important principle for us to learn. I must say I learned this principle regarding my own spiritual gift the hard way.

‎“God will never speak as strongly to you as someone else,” said my mentor to me one day. The statement shocked me. “What in the world do you mean by that?” as I argued with him. “Your spiritual gift of administration/leading is one of the most dangerous gifts in the whole body of Christ. The reason is that you can see the big picture better than anyone else, and you’re so task-oriented that you will run people into the ground getting your project completed because you think you see it so clearly. That is why the best friend you could ever have is someone with a prophetic gift to discern whether the big picture you see is actually the picture God is directing. It is the one gift that can almost stand-alone better than any other — at least that is the opinion of the one with that gift.”

‎Oh, how I have learned this lesson the hard way! He was so right. There have been many a church staff destroyed by the person with the gift of administration. During my years as a project Manager, I saw how I stressed out my staff because of the tremendous load I put on them with multiple projects. It was so easy for me because the more balls I had juggling, the better I felt. I was oblivious to how my multi-task personality impacted those around me.

‎Today, I have some special relationships with intercessors and prophetic people that I depend on for confirmation of direction. I have learned their spiritual gifts of discernment are of great value in determining strategic direction. I have learned that God has placed within each person a spiritual gift that is designed to make the body of Christ function better for His purposes. When we discover the spiritual gifts that God has placed in those

‎THE ONLY WAY

‎JESUS stated in John 14:6:

‎6 Jesus told him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

‎Those who think there is another way to the One True GOD know this, that kind of thinking is Satan’s lie. There is only one way to GOD. JESUS came to earth to tell us and to give HIS sinless life that all who place their faith in HIM will be born-again, in their spirit, into GOD’S family and receive eternal life.

‎FINDING THE WILL OF GOD

‎“I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart” (Psalm 40:8).

‎How would you describe the process by which you find and do the will of God in your life? For some, finding the will of God is like playing bumper cars. We keep going in one direction until we bump into an obstacle, turn, and go in another direction. It is a constant process of elimination, failure, or success. Is this the way God would have us find the will of God? I think not. I think that there is much more relationship between hearing the voice of God and living within the mystery of His omnipotence in our lives. Perhaps this process is more like water in a streambed. The water is constantly flowing to a final destination. As it presses against the streambed, it gently points the water towards its final destination. No abrupt head-on collisions, simply slight modifications of direction. Occasionally, we will come to a sharp turn in the contours of our life. For those times, God allows us to stretch our normal response to change. A popular Bible study says that we cannot go with God and stay where we are. Finding and doing the will of God always requires change. What changes are necessary in your life to join God in what He is already doing?

‎There is a direct connection between finding and doing the will of God and having the law of God in our heart. A friend once complained about the fact he did not know what God wanted of him in his life. My immediate response was, “How much time do you spend with God in Bible study, prayer, and meditation on scripture?” “Only a few minutes a day,” he replied. How can we expect to hear and discern the voice of God if we don’t spend focused time with Him? If you have a spouse, how did you get to know them before you married them? You spent time with them. You got to know everything about them. Our walk with God is no different. It isn’t enough to have a desire to follow God, we must put our energy into getting to know Him. His will for us flows out of our relationship, it is not an end in itself. Commit yourself to seeking Him more in your life by spending more time with Him. “Call to me and I will answer you
