We are ending an emotional week here in Kenya celebrating the life of our Dad, the Mzee of the Mara.

We wanted to share some photos and videos from his final farewell, so that the many clients, friends and people whose lives he touched can be part of it too.

Thank you to everyone who has sent messages, shared memories and travelled alongside Dad over the years. He would have loved seeing everyone together, remembering the adventures and raising a Tusker to a life very well lived.

We scattered his ashes in the places he loved and his spirit lives on in the Mara.

It is with our deepest sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Brian “Mzee” Freeman, the founder of Freeman Safaris.

Brian passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning at camp in the Maasai Mara, the place he loved most.

While we are heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing that he spent his life helping so many people fall in love with what he fondly called his “backyard.” The bush, the wildlife, and the incredible people of the Mara were his greatest passions, and he took immense joy in sharing them with everyone who visited.

There is a certain comfort in knowing that he passed away exactly where he wanted to be, surrounded by the land he loved.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their love, kindness and support during this difficult time. Brian’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he helped create.
