Siem Reap – Battambang Day Trip
Start your adventure early as our expert guide meets you at 5:30 AM in the hotel foyer or at a convenient location in town. We’ll embark on a full-day journey to explore the wonders of Battambang province. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant (at your own expense) and then you will learn about traditional livelihoods, including dried banana production, fruit farming, rice paper making, distillation of rice wine, the creation of Prahoc (Cambodian fermented fish paste), Grolan (sticky rice stuffed in bamboo), and other Khmer delicacies. We’ll then visit Wat Ek Phnom, an impressive Angkorian temple dating back to the 11th century. On the way back, we’ll stop by a traditional wooden house from the French colonial era, where a brief tour will reveal its intriguing history.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Afterward, hop on the famous bamboo train. This unique ride offers a delightful way to experience the scenic rural landscape. Continue to Phnom Sampov, where you can hike to the top to see the killing caves and explore the hidden caves of Battambang.
As the sun sets, we’ll wait on the hillside to witness thousands of bats returning to their caves, creating a stunning spectacle against the evening sky.
We’ll conclude our trip with a drive back to Siem Reap, arriving late in the evening.

The Royal Residence in Siem Reap was constructed in 1904 and served as the official residence for the King of Cambodia during his visits to the city.

In the 1990s, the villa was utilized to host various political figures, primarily for peace negotiations. On February 18, 2017, King Norodom Sihamoni welcomed actress Angelina Jolie and her family to the residence.

In late December 2022, twelve copper statues commissioned by the Ministry of the Royal Palace were officially unveiled outside the Royal Independence Gardens. These statues commemorate military leaders from the Khmer Empire and were created following thorough research conducted by cultural and fine arts experts. A workshop held in 2021 was instrumental in determining which military leaders should be honored with copper casting.

Each statue is 2.1 meters tall, though their weights vary between 200 kg and 300 kg due to differences in appearance, clothing, and the weapons held by the leaders portrayed.

A total of thirty military leaders were identified as suitable subjects for the statues. However, only twelve were selected for display, reflecting the twelve kingdoms and other significant aspects of Khmer history that are counted in that number. Thus, the selection of twelve leaders was finalized during the 2021 workshop.

Within the royal residence compound, tourists can visit the shrine of Preah Ang Chek and Preah Ang Chorm, where two bronze statues are revered and frequently worshipped by many locals. Nearby, numerous large fruit bats hang from the branches of the surrounding trees, creating a lively atmosphere as they chatter among themselves.

Ta Prohm temple is adorned with numerous bas-reliefs depicting various animals and mythical creatures. Many of the animals can be identified, but some are more ambiguous, such as the one referred to as a ‘dinosaur.’ However, there is no evidence or academic consensus supporting the idea that this animal is a stegosaurian dinosaur.”
