Learning your own history used to be a halmeoni job at the dinner table. In 2026 Korea, it is a fully funded government summer camp.
The Overseas Koreans Agency is covering everything for a five-day History and Culture Camp, July 21 to 25, across Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Incheon: classes on Korean history and migration, meetings with senior overseas Koreans working in business and the arts, economic education, and field trips to museums and cultural sites. Lodging, meals, field trip costs, uniforms and travel insurance are all included, and KTX fares may be covered if you live outside the capital area.
60 spots total: 30 for middle and high school students, 30 for university students. The one condition is that you are an overseas Korean student currently living and studying in Korea.
Applications are open now through June 25 by email ([email protected]), with results announced July 3. Priority goes to applicants recommended by an overseas Korean organization or school, those with volunteer work or awards, and descendants of independence activists.
If you grew up far from Korea and ended up studying here, this one is your Korea today, on Korea's tab.
