තමන් වහන්සේගේ මහා කරුණාවෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා වාසීන්ට ඉදිරි කාලයේ දී උදා වන්නා වූ ශාන්තිය දිවැසින් දැක, පළමු වරට මෙම දිවයිනට වැඩම කළ බුදුන් වහන්සේ, මහියංගන මහා ස්තූපය දැනට පිහිටා තිබෙන ස්ථානයට ඉහළින් අහසේ වැඩ සිට, එදින මහවැලි නදිය අසබඩ මහානාග වනයෙහි යක්ෂ සමාගමය සඳහා රැස්ව සිටි යක් පිරිස ආශ්චර්යවත් ප්‍රාතිහාර්ය දැක්වීමෙන් දමනය කොට, ඔවුන් එකකුදු නොහැර ගිරි දිවයිනට පිටත්කර යවා, ඒ අවස්ථාවෙහි රැස් වූ සුමන සමන් දෙවියන් ප්‍රමුඛ දේවතා සමූහයට ධර්මය දේශණා කිරීමෙන් මෙම භූමිය බුද්ධ ධර්මයෙහි පැවැත්ම සඳහා සුදුසු බවට පත් කළේ අද වැනි දුරුතු පසළොස්වක පෙහොය දිනක ය.

The Buddha, who, by His great grace, foresaw the peace that would come to the people of Sri Lanka in the future, first visited this island, and, standing in the sky above the current location of the Mahiyangana Great Stupa, performed a miraculous miracle to subdue the group of Yaks who had gathered for the Yaksha party in the Mahanaga Forest near the Mahaweli River, and sent them to Giri Island without leaving a single one behind. He preached the Dhamma to the assembled group of deities, led by the Sumana Saman, and made this land suitable for the existence of the Buddha Dhamma on a day like today.
