The Anja Community Reserve is a hidden gem in southern Madagascar, located around 13 km south of Ambalavao. 🏞️🗺️💎

Created in 2001 by local residents, it is managed by the village community in an exemplary sustainable tourism approach. 🏘️🤝👍

The site is best known for its catta lemurs, the famous ring-tailed makis, which can be observed at close quarters in their natural habitat. 🐒🐾🌿

Phelsuma dorsivittata, also known as the dorsal-striped day gecko, is a species of gecko endemic to Madagascar.

The name "dorsivittata" refers to the distinctive dorsal stripes that adorn the back of this species. The coloration of Phelsuma dorsivittata is usually green with red or orange stripes, although this can vary depending on locality.

Unlike many other geckos, which are mainly nocturnal, Phelsuma dorsivittata is active during the day, taking advantage of sunlight to warm up and feed. Its diet consists mainly of insects and other small arthropods, which it hunts with its sticky tongue.

Malagasy traditions ⚰️

Various influences have shaped Malagasy religion. The funeral rites of many tribes, for example, have Austronesian roots, while the status of livestock is said to have African roots, and belief in the "vintana" may have its origins in Islamic cosmology.

Traditional Malagasy culture is rooted in the veneration and respect of ancestors. In most tribes, this manifests itself in a complex system of fady and funeral rites, the best known of which is the exhumation and reburial ceremony known as "Famadihana".

What kind of primate do you think this is?

Hapalemur aureus or Golden Hapalemur or Golden Bamboo Lemur.

This is a species of lemur endemic to southeastern of Madagascar, discovered in 1987. Its habitat is primary tropical forests containing giant bamboo.

They are social animals, living in small family groups of around 2 to 6 individuals. The female gives birth to one or sometimes two young. Mating takes place in July - August, with births occurring from November to December at the start of the rainy season. The young are weaned at 6 months. During the first 10 to 14 days of life, the mother chooses an isolated nest.
