Kaladan Mosque | Mawlamyine | Moulmein | Mon State | ...

Mawlamyine (or Mawlamyaing) is the fourth largest city in Myanmar and the capital of Mon State. Formerly known by its English name Moulmein, it served as the capital of British Burma from 1827 to 1852 and was a major port for teak, situated at the mouth of the Thanlwin (Salween) River. It is 300 kilometres south east of Yangon and has a population of around half a million.

During the colonial times there was a large Anglo-Burmese community here, a result of relations between British and other Europeans and indigenous peoples of Burma, who mainly worked in the rubber plantations. Most have now left the country. There are also Muslim peoples, as is evident in some mosques in the city; there is also a Chinese temple and a Baptist church.

But the most impressive sight is a complex of five separate monasteries on the hills in the city's east. These are built in typical Mon style with covered walkways between the various shrine buildings, a large reclining Buddha image in Kyaikthanlan Paya and many golden stupas and statues.—Mawlamyine, Capital of Mon State, ...

In Myanmar’s Jade Mining at Hpakant, a town in the northern state of Kachin.

Hpakant’s mines are the world’s largest supplier of jadeite, the more lucrative of two varieties of jade, while China is the world’s biggest buyer. In China, jade has been cherished for millennia, and today, the stone has become a status symbol among a growing elite class. Jade does not have a fixed international market value, but prices paid for the most coveted stones can rival those of diamonds, carat for carat.

Myanmar – Land of Golden Pagodas & Timeless Tranquility 🛕🌿

Welcome to Myanmar, a country where Buddhist chants rise with the dawn mist, where golden temples glow at sunset, and where time drifts softly like a prayer flag in the wind.

This is a land of ancient kingdoms, serene lakes, mountain monasteries, and some of the kindest smiles you'll ever meet.

Mystical. Majestic. Meditative.
Here’s your journey through the most unforgettable places in Myanmar:

📍 Bagan – The Kingdom of a Thousand Temples
Imagine watching the sun rise over a plain dotted with more than 2,000 ancient pagodas, with hot air balloons floating above. Bagan is where history lives and breathes in brick and gold.

🌄 Must-do: Sunrise at Shwesandaw or Pyathada Pagoda, and a balloon ride over the temples.

📍 Yangon – Where Colonial Charm Meets Sacred Gold
Home to the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon offers a blend of British colonial architecture, bustling street markets, and spiritual grandeur.

🛕 Must-do: Walk around the golden pagoda at sunset — it glows like it holds the sun itself.

📍 Inle Lake – Life on Water

A magical lake where floating gardens, leg-rowing fishermen, and stilt houses tell tales of harmony with nature. Peaceful, slow, and surreal.
🚣 Must-do: Take a boat tour at dawn and visit the Indein Pagodas.

📍 Mandalay – The Cultural Heartbeat

This royal city is home to ancient palaces, wood-carved monasteries, and sunset-lit bridges. A place where tradition flows through daily life.

🌉 Must-do: Walk the U Bein Bridge at golden hour — the world’s longest teakwood bridge.

📍 Golden Rock (Kyaiktiyo Pagoda)

A gravity-defying golden boulder that balances on the edge of a cliff — held by faith, locals say. A sacred pilgrimage site and a symbol of spiritual devotion.

🏔️ Must-do: Hike up in the evening, stay overnight to feel the sunrise blessing.

📍 Ngapali Beach – Myanmar’s Hidden Paradise

White sand, turquoise waters, and fishing villages untouched by time — this is where the Andaman Sea meets slow coastal life.

🌊 Must-do: Fresh seafood at beachside huts and kayaking into the sunset.

📍 Hpa-An – Caves, Cliffs, and Country Charm

Surrounded by limestone mountains, sacred caves, and green rice paddies, Hpa-An is one of Myanmar’s best-kept secrets.

🌄 Must-do: Climb Mount Zwegabin for panoramic views and visit the stunning Sadan Cave.

📍 Mount Popa – The Hill of the Spirits

An extinct volcano topped with a golden monastery, dedicated to Myanmar’s famous nats (spirits). The stair climb is a spiritual journey in itself.

🌿 Must-do: Spot the monkeys, climb 777 steps, and soak in the view.

📍 Mrauk U – The Lost Kingdom

Lesser-known than Bagan but equally haunting, Mrauk U is filled with mystical ruins, stone temples, and the silence of forgotten royalty.

🏯 Must-do: Sunrise through temple silhouettes in complete solitude.

📍 Pindaya Caves – Where Faith Glows

These caves house over 8,000 Buddha statues, hidden in hollows and glittering with gold. A truly spiritual and surreal place.

🕯️ Must-do: Wander through with a guide and light a candle for peace.

🍜 Don’t miss the flavors of Myanmar:

Mohinga – national dish, rice noodle fish soup

Shan noodles – spicy, tangy, and deeply satisfying

Laphet Thoke – fermented tea leaf salad

Burmese curry, tofu nway, and sweet coconut-based desserts

Fresh juices & warm tea served in roadside tea houses ☕

🎋 Myanmar is a land where:

Pagodas pierce the skies,

Rivers flow like time,

And people greet you with a bow and a smile.

It’s a place to unplug, listen to silence, and rediscover simplicity — sacred, still, and soulful.

📅 Best time to visit Myanmar:

November to February – cool, dry, and perfect for temple tours and lakes

Avoid June–September – monsoon season
