THE ZEILA SHIPWRECK
A piece of Namibia’s maritime history

The Zeila ran aground in August 2008, after its tow line broke while being transported out of Walvis Bay on its way to India for scrapping.

The vessel washed ashore approximately 14 km south of Henties Bay, where it remains today. Over the years, the wreck has become a well-known landmark along Namibia’s coastline and a resting spot for seabirds.

Photographer describes her collection, Namibia From Above, as a journey of “unique shapes” and an unexpected clash of colours and surfaces.

During her scenic flight with us, she captured the contrasts that make the Namib so remarkable: orange desert sands, moon-like landscapes, the winding Kuiseb and the colours of the Atlantic coastline.

Meet Leandra, one of the talented pilots on our team ✈️

For Leandra, aviation has always been part of life. Growing up around flying, her love for it started at a young age. Today, after five and a half years in the sky, that childhood passion has become her career.

Leandra learned to fly right here in Swakopmund at the Swakopmund Flying School. What she loves most is that no two flights are ever quite the same, and being able to share the experience of seeing Namibia from the air with others.

One of her favourite routes takes her along the coast between Swakopmund and Lüderitz. The scenery is constantly changing, with dunes meeting the ocean, shipwrecks below, seal colonies and seemingly endless stretches of untouched coastline.

One sight that never gets old is the Namibian coastline. With the landscape changing from day to day, it never looks quite the same from above.

When she’s not behind the controls, you might just find her jumping out of the plane instead. 🪂

Who is Eagle Eye?

Two brothers, one shared love for aviation, and a deep appreciation for Namibia.

What started with Johan and JF Botha in 2013 has grown into more than eleven years of flying people across some of the most remarkable parts of the country. From scenic flights to private charters, Eagle Eye has always been about personal service, experienced flying and sharing Namibia from a perspective few get to see.

For us, “explore beyond the ordinary” is more than a line. It is what flying allows us to do every day, and what we hope every passenger feels when they step on board.
