Where to stay for the Great Migration? We'd stay here.

Picture this: a lodge tucked into the Northern Serengeti, close enough to the Mara River that the river crossings happen practically on your doorstep. Just a short drive from the airstrip, so you're barely off the plane before you're immersed in it.

Seven villas, each with unobstructed views of the plains, so you can watch whatever wanders past from your bed or your own private veranda. Inside: an ensuite bathroom with three ways to bathe (indoor and outdoor showers, plus a freestanding copper tub), a private heated pool, an outdoor lounge, a wood-burning fire stove for cooler nights, and a butler who looks after you personally throughout your stay. Premium spirits are included, because a golden hour by the pool deserves a proper drink in hand.

And when it's time for the main event, you're out in an open safari vehicle built for it: leather seats, extra suspension, Wi-Fi, charging ports, binoculars for everyone, and cold drinks on hand. Just you, a great vehicle, and one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on the planet.

Planning a trip to Namibia? Here's where we'd go.

Start in the Kalahari, red sand, camelthorn trees, and some of the darkest skies you'll ever see, plus a very different side of desert life to what comes next. Move on to Sossusvlei, some of the oldest and tallest dunes on earth, and Deadvlei sitting quietly among them, all cracked white clay and centuries-old dead trees.

Head to the coast at Swakopmund, dunes meeting ocean, adrenaline activities if you want them, or just a good coffee and a slower pace if you don't. Then inland to Damaraland for ancient rock art and the chance to track desert-adapted elephants across land that shouldn't support life and somehow does. Continue to Etosha, where the waterholes do the work for you and the wildlife just shows up.

Finish in the Caprivi Strip, Namibia's greenest corner, where the desert gives way to rivers, floodplains, and some of the best birdlife and water-based game viewing in the country. It's also the perfect jumping-off point if you want to roll straight into Botswana.

Three weeks does this route justice, but it can flex shorter. Every stop earns its place.
