🇳🇱 Meet Ayse - our newest CityBuddy! ❤️

Rainy Amsterdam, two umbrellas, a coffee along the way… and a new Buddy joining the YourCityBuddy family. ☔️☕️

Today we met Ayse, originally from Turkey and a proud Amsterdam local for the past 35 years. She’s also a huge travel enthusiast, so she knows both sides of the story - what it’s like to explore the world, and what it feels like to truly know a city as your home.

Now she’s bringing that local knowledge to YourCityBuddy.

Her experience is called “Taste & Tales of Amsterdam” — a relaxed walk through local food, history and hidden gems, sharing the stories and places you might otherwise walk straight past.

And honestly… even Amsterdam in the rain has its own kind of magic. 🌧️❤️

Welcome to the Buddy family, Ayse. We’re very happy to have you with us! 🫶

A good day, a good conversation, and a great local. 🇳🇱

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Tycho, from Amsterdam - a true Amsterdammer with a real passion for his city.

We had a great, long chat about Amsterdam, life, local stories, creativity and, of course, the idea behind YourCityBuddy and what we can create together.

Tycho is also building something of his own that I really want to support - his YouTube channel, Tycho from Amsterdam, where he shares his perspective on the city, the places, the people and the things that make Amsterdam what it is.

If you want to see Amsterdam through the eyes of someone who genuinely knows and loves the city, go check out his YouTube channel and give him a follow. 🎥🇳🇱

And of course, give him a follow here on Instagram too: Tycho from Amsterdam

Really enjoyed today Tycho. Looking forward to seeing where this goes. 🤝

Go give him some love! ❤️

Hi, my name is Cem, and I’m the founder & CEO of YourCityBuddy. 👋

Today I had the pleasure of showing Joel, visiting from Australia, a little bit of my Amsterdam. 🇳🇱

We spent two relaxed hours walking around the city - seeing some of the sights, but also stopping at places I actually eat, drink and enjoy myself.

No fixed tour. No big itinerary. Just a local showing a visitor around and sharing Amsterdam from my perspective.

And honestly, this is exactly why I started YourCityBuddy.

You know your city better than anyone. You know the little places, the good food, the hidden corners and the things that make your city special.

So why not share that with someone visiting?

You can create your own experience, do something you genuinely enjoy in your spare time, meet people from around the world - and get paid for it.

A big thank you to Joel Kodiak Ouma (Joel) for the trust and for spending the morning with me. 🙌

Now I’m curious… if someone came to your city tomorrow, where would you take them? 👀

If you’re a local and think “I could do that” — you probably can.

DID YOU KNOW ABOUT AMSTERDAM’S “SKINNY BRIDGE”? 👀🇳🇱

The Magere Brug, or “Skinny Bridge”, is one of Amsterdam’s most famous bridges - crossing the Amstel right in the heart of the city.

The original bridge was so narrow that it was difficult for people to pass each other, which is where the nickname “Skinny Bridge” comes from.

But there’s also a much more romantic story… ❤️

Legend says two sisters lived on opposite sides of the Amstel and had the bridge built so they could visit each other more easily.

Our local tip: come back after sunset. ✨
The bridge lights up with hundreds of little lights, and the reflection on the Amstel makes it one of the nicest evening spots in the city.

🇳🇱 First time in Amsterdam? Save this before you arrive. 🚲🌷

Coming to Amsterdam for the first time can be a little overwhelming. There’s the canals, museums, bikes everywhere, busy tourist areas, nightlife, coffee shops, markets… and then all the little things you only really learn once you’re here.

So we put together a simple first-timer’s guide to Amsterdam covering:

📍 Things you should definitely do
🚲 How to survive the bikes!
🍴 Places and neighbourhoods worth exploring
🌿 A few ways to experience Amsterdam beyond the main tourist attractions
⚠️ Things to avoid (and a few common mistakes visitors make)
💡 Practical tips to make your trip easier
❤️ How to experience the city more like a local

Whether you’re planning your first trip, arriving soon, or already here, hopefully it saves you a little time and helps you get more out of Amsterdam.

And honestly, one of the best things you can do here is get away from the obvious tourist route and see the city through the eyes of someone who actually lives here.

Amsterdam is beautiful. But the best parts of Amsterdam aren’t always the places you find on a map. 🇳🇱

They’re the quiet streets.
The little cafés.
The hidden corners.
The stories behind the buildings.
The places you’d never know existed unless someone local showed you.

Because when you travel, you don’t just want to see a city.

You want to feel it.
You want to experience it like someone who actually lives there.

That’s what YourCityBuddy is about.

Real people.
Real stories.
Real Amsterdam.

See Amsterdam differently.
Discover it with a local.

Who would you bring with you? ❤️

🎬 A different kind of day in Amsterdam

Today YourCityBuddy teamed up with friends from the film world - and Chassity Cohen , who were out location scouting for an upcoming project about exploring Amsterdam with friends.

So what better way to do it than to show them the city like a local? 🇳🇱

From the little streets and hidden corners to some of the more unexpected spots around Amsterdam, we spent the day exploring, scouting locations and sharing a few places you might not find in the usual guidebooks.

This is exactly what Your City Buddy is about - connecting visitors with locals who know the city from a different perspective. 🧡

Sometimes the best way to discover a city is simply to have a local show you around.

A little local Amsterdam find… 🧺☀️

This morning we stopped by the Vintage-Antiekmarkt Amstelveld - right in the heart of Amsterdam.

Around 120 stalls fill the square with antiques, vintage pieces, curiosities, collectibles and all kinds of unexpected finds. We had a wander around, grabbed a coffee and chatted with a few of the people at the market.

It’s exactly the kind of little Amsterdam experience we love at YourCityBuddy - slow down, wander around and discover something you wouldn’t necessarily find on the usual tourist route. ❤️

📍 Amstelveld, Amsterdam
🎟️ Free entry
🕗 08:00–16:30
📅 Next market: Friday 4 September

If you’re in Amsterdam that day, go have a look. You never know what you might find. 👀
