🏔️ The Dolpo to Jomsom Trek maximum altitude reaches 5,550 meters at Jungben La. Five different passes on the route rise above 5,000 meters.

Planning the route? We’ve added the Dolpo to Jomsom Trek map and Dolpo to Jomsom Trek itinerary to the photos. The trip facts are there too.

🌦️ THE BEST MONSOON TREK IN NEPAL: DOLPO TO JOMSOM 🌦️

Dolpo sits in the rain shadow of the Himalaya. That makes it one of the best places for trekking during Nepal’s monsoon months.

The Dolpo to Jomsom trek crosses a rugged highland landscape shaped by dry winds. Along the way, you’ll pass rushing rivers, deep gorges, old monasteries, and remote villages. 🏔️

The route crosses five passes above 5,000 meters. The highest point is Jungben La at 5,550 meters. This makes the trek tough and best suited to strong and fit trekkers.

You’ll also visit Shey Phoksundo Lake and the ancient trading village of Dho Tarap. The local Bon culture adds another special side to this remote region. 🛖

💡 Good to know: Dolpo requires a special trekking permit and a licensed guide. From 2026, solo trekkers may also trek with a guide. There is no longer a minimum group size of two trekkers.

Dolpo to Jomsom itinerary:

1️⃣ Days 1–5: Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, Juphal, and the first days on trail
2️⃣ Days 6–10: Phoksundo Lake, acclimatization, and the first high passes
3️⃣ Days 11–15: Dho Tarap, Chan La, and the ancient village of Chharka Bhot
4️⃣ Days 16–20: Remote camps, two more high passes, and Annapurna
5️⃣ Days 21–26: Jomsom, Pokhara, Kathmandu, and departure

📍 Trip facts:

· Duration: 21-day trek | 26-day round trip
· Trip level: Adventurous
· Maximum altitude: 5,550 meters
· Accommodation: Camping
· Best season: June, July, August, September

Dolpo offers a very different side of Nepal. It is remote, rugged, and still largely untouched by mass tourism. 🌿

We are saddened and heartbroken to hear that all ten climbers caught in the Broad Peak avalanche have lost their lives. Against all odds, we hoped they would survive, but sadly, there are no survivors.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the climbers. We wish them strength during this incredibly painful time. The entire mountaineering community is shocked by this devastating loss. We Nepalis especially mourn the loss of six highly talented climbers.

May their souls rest in eternal peace.

🏔️ Limi Valley is one of Nepal's last truly remote trekking destinations.

As soon as you leave the Simikot airstrip behind, the crowds disappear. The trail leads through remote villages, quiet mountain valleys, and wide open landscapes. 🌿 Along the way, the scenery changes from dry barren hills to lush green valleys, making every day feel different. A visit to the centuries-old Halji Monastery, in the heart of the Limi Valley, is another highlight of the journey. 🛕

One thing we always appreciate is how peaceful the region remains. It feels like stepping back into an older, quieter Nepal.

📌 Limi Valley Trek Facts:
🥾 18-day itinerary
🌞 Best season: May to October
🎫 Humla Restricted Area Permit required
⛺ Tent trek, except for acceptable teahouses in Simikot
🐾 Possible wildlife includes snow leopard, Himalayan wolf, kiang, Himalayan brown bear, and Himalayan blue sheep
🛕 Visit several remote and authentic monasteries, including Halji Monastery

🏜️ Thinking about trekking in Upper Mustang? Here are three questions we get asked the most.

🥾 Is the trek difficult?
We consider it a moderate trek. The trails are generally easy to walk, although the dry wind and barren landscape can make some days feel more challenging.

🎫 How much is the permit?
The restricted area permit now costs USD $50 per person, per day. It can only be arranged through a certified trekking company like Sherpa Heritage Trails.

⛰️ What is the highest point?
The regular route crosses a pass at 4,010 meters. If you prefer quieter trails and want to avoid more of the road, you can take an alternative route that crosses passes above 4,200 meters.

One thing we've learned over the years is that there's no single "best" way to experience Upper Mustang. The right route depends on how much you want to walk and what kind of experience you're looking for. 😊

🌿 Sherpa Heritage Trails is happy to help you choose the itinerary that fits you best.

🏰 Lo Manthang is one of the highlights of the Upper Mustang trek.

The former capital of the Kingdom of Mustang is a fascinating place to explore. Its narrow alleys are full of character, and every corner reveals something new. The monasteries are also worth visiting, even if you can't always go inside.

We always enjoy taking our time here. It's a place where wandering without a plan often leads to the best discoveries.
