Everest’s First Mountain Rangers: Protecting the World’s Highest Peak❤️🙏

In a landmark step toward preserving Mount Everest, the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) deployed the mountain’s first dedicated Everest Rangers during the 2026 climbing season. Stationed at Camp II, these high-altitude rangers were tasked with monitoring waste management, ensuring climbers complied with mandatory waste-return rules, promoting environmental awareness, and providing emergency support in one of the harshest environments on Earth.

Their mission comes as Everest faces growing environmental pressure from record numbers of climbers and the impacts of climate change. Throughout the season, the rangers helped oversee the recovery of significant amounts of waste, including discarded climbing gear, gas canisters, and human-waste bags from higher camps. The initiative is part of a broader effort to make mountaineering more sustainable through improved waste management, cleaner energy solutions, and innovative technologies such as drones for waste transport.

The introduction of Everest Rangers marks a new chapter in protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the world’s highest mountain.
