In a notice on Thursday September 24, the Immigration Department of Nepal said foreign travellers to Nepal can obtain visas on arrival.
Tourists fully vaccinated against Covid, with the second dose 14 days before the date of travel, will no longer have to quarantine after landing in Kathmandu and can get visas on arrival. Earlier, they had to get visas from Nepal’s missions abroad and quarantine for seven days at a hotel in Kathmandu at their own expense
In another major boost to the sector, major airlines have announced the resumption of the much in demand domestic and international flights, which draw lakhs of tourists each year.
Nepal, which hosts eight of 14 highest peaks in the world, is severely dependent on its tourism sector. The Himalayan nation recorded just 230,085 foreign footfalls in 2020, a dip of over 80 per cent compared to 2019.
