🏍️ The Homer Tunnel is one of those bits of New Zealand engineering that makes the ride to Milford Sound even more interesting.

Cut straight through the Darran Mountains, the 1.2km tunnel is the gateway between the Eglinton and Hollyford valleys and Milford Sound beyond. Riding towards that dark opening with sheer Fiordland rock rising around you is a pretty memorable way to enter one of the most spectacular corners of the country.

One of New Zealand’s most recognisable little characters — the pīwakawaka, or fantail 🇳🇿🐦

Known for its distinctive fanned tail, restless movements and habit of flitting remarkably close to people, the pīwakawaka is a familiar sight in forests, gardens and bush throughout much of the country. They’re tiny, curious and full of personality — exactly the kind of unexpected encounter that adds another layer to travelling through New Zealand.
