One small thing that can save you a big headache overseas? Let your bank know you're travelling.

If your bank suddenly sees purchases popping up in another country, they may flag them as suspicious and temporarily block your card. While it's great they're looking out for you, it can be frustrating if you're trying to pay for dinner or check into your hotel!

Before you leave:
Let your bank know where you're travelling and when.
Check your cards won't expire while you're away.
Consider taking a second card as a backup, just in case.
