El Nino sun rising over the Sepik River.

We departed Palimbe 5am sharp for Pagwi, there we boarded the bus, drove through the beautiful Sepik Plains to Maprik.

Breakfast on the go, and late lunch prepared and waiting on our arrival at the In Wewak Boutique hotel.
The staff and managers were all on there and made us feel so at home .

Our flight Wewak to Mt Hagen was the amongst the last ones before the temporary stop of Airlines PNG flights into Mt Hagen.

Mt. WILHELM.

I took a side trip this time during my tour to the foot of Mt Wilhelm.
Since 2014, our partnership with Betty's Lodge has seen countless hikers summit the peak of the highest mountain in Oceania.

Yes the road was made long due to its rugged nature , the stops along the way to take pictures of the fast rivers, the mountains and breath taking landscape, meeting locals, and just enjoying the moment of being in a different place and time.
Finally we made it to Betty's place. The happy chatty beautiful and smiling face of my dear friend whom I first met in 2013 was such a welcome sight for me.

Her whole team stepped in to make us welcome, my teamand I had hot meal and warm beds that cold cold night.
I departed next day with a truck load of fresh potatoes, greens,herbs and a whole new extended family to my heart.

Hiking up Mt Wilhelm is a whole different feeling of accomplishment. A must do if you are ever in PNG.
