🇯🇵 𝗝𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗡 𝗘-𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗔 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦

Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) eVisa page confirms as of May 15, 2026, the JAPAN eVISA system has been expanded to include the Philippines, alongside Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, the UK, and the US.

Key conditions you must know:

✈️ 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆. Philippine passport holders residing in the Philippines can apply, but only if they're travelling as part of a packaged tour organized by designated travel agencies — independent/DIY travelers, business travelers, and those visiting for study, work, or family still go through the regular JVAC/VFS route.

⌚ 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮. For Filipino nationals residing in the Philippines, the eVisa's period of stay is limited to 15 days — not the usual 90-day Temporary Visitor allowance.

🧳 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆, 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺-𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆. All participants must follow a single itinerary.

📄 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.Applicants need to present passport, forms and PSA certificates. They can skip the bank certificates, bank statements, and Income Tax Return normally required, though the embassy can still call an applicant in for a face-to-face interview if needed.

🛂 𝗡𝗼 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿. Approved applicants get a digital "Visa Issuance Notice" to present at the airport — must be shown live on a device, not as a screenshot or printout, per MOFA's own instructions.

💰The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has announced the updated fees for foreign passport holders. Philippine passport holders applying for a Temporary Visitor/Tourist Visa will continue to enjoy visa-free processing and just need to pay Visa Center Fees (and visa assistance fees if going though travel agencies)

🇻🇳 ICYMI: Starting April 15, 2026, travelers entering the SGN Airport (Tan Son Nhat Airport) in Ho Chi Minh City need to fill up accomplish the Digital Arrival Card. (🔗Please see official link in comment section)

The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is an automated IT system for registering non-EU nationals travelling for a short stay, each time they cross the external borders of 29 European countries using the system. Phase 1 was launched last October 25, 2025 and full implementation started April 10, 2026.

The system registers the person's name, travel document data, biometric data (fingerprints and captured facial images) and the date and place of entry and exit, in full respect of fundamental rights and data protection. It also records refusals of entry. 'Short stay' means up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱?
The system applies to you if you are a non-EU national who either:

🙋needs a short-stay visa to travel to the European countries using the EES, or
🙋does not need a visa to travel for a short stay in the European countries using the EES

Your entries and exits, or entry refusals will be electronically registered in the EES.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗘𝗦 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?

👉 First time crossing since EES started
✔️ You will provide your personal data — a photo of your face and/or fingerprint scan will be taken and saved in a digital file.
✔️ Your passport will not be stamped.
✔️ You can speed up the process by pre-registering using a self-service kiosk (if available) or the mobile app (see info on "Travel to Europe App below).
✔️ You will always meet a passport control officer regardless.

👉 Returning travellers (already registered in EES)
✔️ Your photo and fingerprints are already on file — officers will simply verify them, making the process faster.
✔️ If you hold a biometric passport and your file is clear, you may be able to use the self-service system without going through a passport control officer.
✔️ In rare cases, your data may need to be re-collected.

🇵🇭 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀?
Philippine passport holders require a Schengen visa to enter EU/Schengen countries, so the EES applies to us directly. Here's what changes:

✔️ No more passport stamps — your entry and exit will be logged digitally instead.
✔️ Biometrics required at the border — expect fingerprint scanning and facial image capture on your first entry into the Schengen Area.
✔️ The 90/180-day rule is now strictly tracked — the EES automatically monitors how many days you've spent in the Schengen Zone. Overstaying will be flagged instantly.
✔️ Faster processing (eventually) — once enrolled, repeat travellers may benefit from quicker border checks.
✔️ Entry refusals are recorded — if you are denied entry, this is also stored in the system.

💡 Reminder: The 90-day limit within any 180-day period still applies. The EES just makes enforcement automatic — so plan your trips carefully and keep track of your travel dates!

📱 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲" 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽

A free mobile app designed for non-EU travellers subject to EES registration. This is available on both App Store and Google Play. It lets you pre-register your passport data and facial image up to 72 hours before entering or leaving a participating country — and fill in the entry conditions questionnaire in advance.

Requires a biometric passport to use.
✔️ Use is optional — but it can save you time at the border.
✔️ Does not replace border checks — you will still go through passport control.

As of this posting, currently available in:
🇸🇪 Sweden — passport data, facial image, and entry questionnaire
🇵🇹 Portugal — entry questionnaire only
Other countries may adopt the app in the future.
