CEBU PACIFIC’S 10KG HAND-CARRY LIMIT COMES WITH RESPONSIBILITY
So it is now confirmed that Cebu Pacific is updating its hand-carry baggage policy.
Beginning September 15, passengers on all 5J-coded Cebu Pacific flights can bring up to 10 kg of hand-carry baggage. For DG-coded Cebgo flights, the limit remains at 7 kg.
This is definitely good news for passengers because you can now bring more than 7 kg on Cebu Pacific flights.
However, there is something I would like to remind everyone about again, and this is important.
FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO LIFT AND STOW YOUR HAND-CARRY LUGGAGE INTO THE OVERHEAD COMPARTMENT.
Yes, let me repeat that.
If you are an able-bodied passenger, lifting and stowing your own hand-carry luggage is your responsibility, not the flight attendant’s.
Flight attendants may assist passengers who genuinely need help, such as PWDs, senior citizens, pregnant passengers, or passengers with physical conditions that make lifting difficult.
That is assistance.
It does not mean cabin crew are required to lift the bags of every passenger on board.
So if you plan to pack the full 10 kg allowance, make sure you can also lift that 10 kg and put it inside the overhead bin yourself. Or better yet, bring one up to 7kgs hand carry luggage you can stow into the overhead compartment, and one 3kgs or less bag that you can put under the seat in front of you.
But do not think, “Okay lang kahit mabigat, may flight attendant naman na maglalagay.”
No.
That is not their job, especially if you are physically capable of handling your own luggage.
If you cannot lift the bag yourself, then do not pack beyond what you can comfortably carry. Check in some of your belongings instead.
Also, be a responsible traveler.
If you have an injury or physical condition and you really do not need to carry the full 10 kg just to avoid checked baggage fees, then please consider checking in your heavier items. Or again, if you can't really help but exceed 7kgs, then just divide them into two bags.
Ten kilograms is around 22 pounds.
Now imagine lifting around 22 pounds above your head repeatedly for passenger after passenger, possibly across several flights in one duty day.
That can lead to shoulder, back, and other physical injuries.
This is one reason flight attendants are NOT OBLIGATED to stow able-bodied passengers’ luggage into the overhead bins.
Their primary responsibility is safety.
They need to remain physically capable of responding quickly during an emergency, operating emergency equipment, assisting passengers, opening doors, and carrying out an evacuation if necessary.
So yes, the increase to 10 kg is good news.
But the additional allowance comes with responsibility.
Pack what you can carry.
If you bring a single 10 kg as hand carry, make sure you can lift and stow that 10 kg yourself.
