Every year between November and June, the largest fish in the sea swims into a small bay in Sorsogon. Whale sharks, called butanding by Bicolanos, can grow over forty feet long, yet they feed only on plankton and tiny fish. Donsol became known around the world after more than ninety of them were spotted there in 1998.

Today the interactions are supervised by conservation groups, with strict rules against touching or feeding them. A fishing town once known to almost no one now welcomes the world to meet its gentle giants. Follow for the wonders of the Philippines the world is still discovering.
