October 24, 2026. Morning Birdwalk and Birding Trip for the kids of Learn Group Community - Palawan of Homeschool Global Philippines, the 2nd batch. Another outdoor fun for learning birds and other stuff.

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” – B.B. King

Thank you very much for trusting me to share my knowledge and passion about Palawan avian treasures. I know this is a small step to introduce your kids into simple learnings about nature, birds and wildlife, but this will be another core memories for them to start appreciating the beauty of wildlife and nature.

When I asked: Kids, what is the favorite bird of the day?
Kids shouted: "Hornbill" "Eagle" and the small colorful birds..

Simply fulfilling!

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6

Spending my morning with the children for simple birdwalk activities to introduce them to birdwatching and outdoor activities.. Truly amazing feeling to share the avian treasures of Palawan to the young ones and their parents as well.. For me guiding is not only finding birds and targets, it is about sharing my passion and knowledge to see each species we saw brought smiles and the word "really, it's colorful, it's beautiful!" and more...

Thank you Global Homeschooling Philippines, our Palawan home schoolers for bringing your children out for nature and wildlife adventures..

“Great things happen to those who don't stop believing, trying, learning, and being grateful.” — Roy T. Bennett

Last October 10, 2026 while joining the Global Birding and making bird counting in Palawan, together with my fellow birders and licensed guides: Steph and Rich, we were fortunate to encountered one of our mega lifer of the day:

The Grey-headed lapwing (Vanellus cinereus)

"It is a lapwing species which breeds in northeast China and Japan. The mainland population winters in northern Southeast Asia from northeastern India to Cambodia. The Japanese population winters, at least partially, in southern Honshū. This species has occurred as a vagrant in Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, New South Wales, Australia, Telangana and Sri Lanka, as well as Sweden and England (Wiki)."

To our surprise, one noted that the first record in Palawan was 22 years ago, which make us excited because it was the 2nd time it was formally recorded (ebird list and approved by the committee). We have recorded 74 species that time but this species made our list very special.

Looking back to my birding career, I am still a nobody and not a big thing in the birding industry in the Philippines but still great things happened to me and I am truly grateful and happy. My contributions to Palawan birds list:
1. Horsfield's bronze cuckoo - 1st Country record
2. Long-billed dowitcher - 1st Palawan and country record
3. Taiga flycatcher - validation and list contributor
4. Glossy Ibis - validation and list contributor
5. Grey-headed lapwing - 2nd Palawan record

To end: "Great things happen to humble people"
