On the 11th Day of our Marian Pilgrimage here in Europe, in the afternoon, we traveled from Segovia to Ávila, the home of the famous Carmelite saint, Saint Teresa of Ávila.

Upon arrival, we celebrated a heartfelt Thanksgiving Mass at the church, offering our prayers and gratitude for the blessings and graces received throughout our pilgrimage journey.

After the Mass, the pilgrims enjoyed a peaceful walk along the charming old streets of Ávila, a city well known for its beautifully preserved medieval walls and deep spiritual heritage. We visited the lively Plaza Mayor, admired the historic cathedral, and experienced the serene atmosphere of this sacred city connected to the life of Saint Teresa.

Before ending the day, everyone had the chance to taste and buy the famous “Yemas de Santa Teresa,” the traditional sweet delicacy of Ávila named in honor of Saint Teresa — a simple yet memorable treat from this holy city.

On the 11th day of our Marian Pilgrimage, we traveled for almost four hours from Barcelona to the beautiful historic city of Segovia. Upon our arrival, we visited the magnificent Segovia Cathedral, known as the “Lady of Cathedrals,” admired for its breathtaking Gothic architecture and rich religious history.

The pilgrims also enjoyed walking along the charming old streets of Segovia and witnessing the world-famous Aqueduct of Segovia, one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in the world, built more than 2,000 years ago and considered a masterpiece of Roman engineering.

After the tour, everyone enjoyed tasting Segovia’s most famous delicacy — the traditional Cochinillo Asado (roast suckling pig), a beloved local dish that originated in Segovia and has become one of Spain’s most iconic culinary traditions. Truly, it was a day filled with history, culture, faith, and joyful fellowship among the pilgrims.

On the 10th day of our Marian Pilgrimage, we visited the beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, one of the most important Marian shrines in Spain, located in the historic region of Aragon.

Our pilgrims also had the blessing of celebrating a Thanksgiving Mass at one of the chapels inside the basilica, offering our prayers, intentions, and gratitude to the Blessed Mother for the gift of this spiritual journey.

According to tradition, the basilica marks the place where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint James the Apostle in the year 40 AD while he was preaching the Gospel in Spain. Mama Mary appeared standing on a pillar and encouraged Saint James to continue his mission despite hardships and discouragement. This apparition is believed to be the first Marian apparition in history, since it happened while the Blessed Virgin Mary was still living on earth.

The basilica is also known for a famous miracle during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Several bombs were dropped on the church during an air raid, but none of them exploded, leaving the basilica unharmed. Until today, some of the unexploded bombs are preserved and displayed inside the basilica as a reminder of the miraculous protection believed to have been granted by Our Lady of the Pillar.

The present basilica, with its magnificent Baroque architecture and beautiful domes, became one of the most beloved pilgrimage sites in Spain, welcoming millions of faithful pilgrims from all over the world who come to seek the intercession and guidance of the Blessed Mother.

Truly, our visit to this holy place was a grace-filled and unforgettable experience that deepened our faith and Marian devotion throughout our pilgrimage journey.

A short but memorable stop at the beautiful entrance of the Principality of Monaco during our Marian Pilgrimage journey. Although we were not able to enter the city because of the exciting Monaco Grand Prix preparations and road closures, we still managed to enjoy the breathtaking view of the State of Monaco from afar.

Our pilgrims also had the opportunity to take a lovely group photo at the famous Exotic Garden of Monaco, capturing another blessed and joyful moment together during this pilgrimage adventure. Truly, every stop becomes meaningful when shared with faith, friendship, and gratitude.

We first visited the beautiful Basilica of Saint Clare, where we prayed and reflected on the simple and faithful life of St. Clare. We then proceeded to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, where the tomb and incorrupt body of Carlo Acutis is now enshrined — a truly inspiring witness of holiness in the modern world.

Our pilgrims had a short yet meaningful visit to the home of Saint Rita of Cascia in Cascia, a beautiful mountain town in the region of Umbria, Central Italy, known as the home of the beloved Patroness of Impossible Causes.

We visited the beautiful Basilica of Saint Rita where our group celebrated a heartfelt Pilgrims’ Thanksgiving Mass led by Fr. Vhong. It was truly a grace-filled moment of prayer, reflection, and thanksgiving as we continue our pilgrimage journey here in Italy.

The life of Saint Rita is an inspiration to many — a woman of deep faith, patience, forgiveness, and unwavering trust in God despite the many sufferings she experienced in life. Through her prayers and intercession, countless people continue to receive hope and miracles even in the most impossible situations.

Our pilgrims were also blessed to witness the incorrupt body of Saint Rita, a powerful reminder of holiness and God’s enduring grace.

Saint Rita of Cascia, pray for us! 🙏
