Avalanche Hits Broad Peak Expedition, 10 Climbers Reportedly Out of Contact as Rescue Efforts Intensify

ISLAMABAD, July 30: The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) has expressed deep concern following reports of an avalanche that struck a mountaineering expedition on Broad Peak (8,047 metres) in the Karakoram range around midday on Thursday, leaving all 10 members of the team reportedly out of communication.
According to preliminary information released by the Alpine Club of Pakistan the expedition included an international team of climbers comprising five Nepalese mountaineers led by renowned climber Nims Dai, Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi from Hunza, an Omani climber, an American climber, a Chinese climber identified as Mr. Wang and another foreign climber.
Officials said contact with the entire team was lost following the avalanche raising serious concerns about their safety.
The President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan Major General Irfan Arshad, HI(M) along with the club’s senior leadership, is maintaining close coordination with the highest government authorities and relevant rescue agencies to facilitate an immediate search and rescue operation.
According to the ACP every effort is underway to mobilize helicopters and all available rescue resources at the earliest possible opportunity, subject to weather conditions and operational feasibility in the high-altitude environment.
In a statement issued by ACP General Secretary Ayaz Shigri, the organization said it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with all concerned stakeholders. The club also expressed solidarity with the families of the climbers and the international mountaineering community while praying for the safe recovery of everyone involved.
Authorities have stated that further information will be released as rescue teams assess the situation and verified updates become available.
