From Polonia about a very special and beautiful tradition still cultivated in Poland:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 The Slavic festival of Dziady (meaning "Forefathers' Eve") is a feast for the dead, believed to be a time when the veil between the living and the dead was thin. Rituals involved appeasing ancestors by offering food, drink, and candles.

🔥As Christianity spread, the church absorbed many pagan practices rather than eradicating them. The tradition of lighting fire on graves was incorporated into Christian observances like All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

🕯️Today, lighting candles is a widespread practice in countries like Poland and other parts of Central Europe, where it is a way to honor deceased loved ones, guide their souls, and maintain a connection to the past.

The Tatra Mountains are the highest part of the Carpathian range, forming a natural border between Poland and Slovakia. About one-third of the Tatras lie in Poland, and two-thirds on the Slovak side. The highest peak, Gerlach (2,655 m), is in Slovakia, while Poland’s highest mountain, Rysy (2,499 m), can be climbed from both countries.

The Polish Tatras are part of the Tatra National Park (Tatrzański Park Narodowy), a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve known for its crystal-clear lakes, alpine meadows, and wildlife such as chamois and marmots. The region’s heart is Zakopane, a lively mountain town famous for its wooden architecture, ski slopes, and folk culture.

Visitors come year-round for hiking, climbing, skiing, or simply enjoying breathtaking views. The Tatras offer dramatic landscapes and a sense of wilderness rarely found elsewhere in Europe - all within a few hours from Kraków.

Have you ever been there?
Have a great day!

It’s one of those perfect one-day trips from Kraków - you drive just about 30 kilometers northwest, and suddenly the city noise melts into forest air and golden hills. That’s where Pieskowa Skała Castle rises above the Prądnik Valley, right in the heart of Ojców National Park, created in 1956 and being the smallest of national parks in Poland.

However It’s full of wonders - limestone cliffs, mysterious caves, ancient forests, and ruins hiding between trees. Just next to the castle stands the famous Hercules’ Club, a tall limestone rock that looks like nature’s own monument.

I’ve seen this place in every season, but autumn wins - the castle doesn’t just stand there, it simple glows! Like it remembers everything that ever happened on that hill. And perhaps it does...?

Have a great day!

Whenever I welcome a group to Gdańsk, I always encourage them to take a short trip to Malbork Castle - it’s close by, and absolutely worth it. Recently, I visited it again with one of my Danish groups, who come to Poland every year for a few days stay in Gdansk.

Malbork is not just a castle - it’s a monument to history, power, and resilience. Built in the 13th century by the Teutonic Knights, it was once the largest Gothic fortress in Europe and the center of their religious-military state. For centuries, the Order ruled this part of Poland, often in conflict with its people. The tension between the Polish Kingdom and the Teutonic Order culminated in the great Battle of Grunwald in 1410, one of the most famous victories in Polish history.

This dramatic chapter inspired Henryk Sienkiewicz, one of Poland’s greatest writers and a Nobel Prize laureate, to write his epic novel “The Teutonic Knights” (“Krzyżacy” in Polish). His story - full of heroism, oppression, and hope - helped Poles preserve their national identity during hard times.

If you’re ever in Gdańsk, don’t miss it! Malbork is more than a castle - it’s a living page of Poland's past. 🏰🇵🇱

On our way from Malbork back to Gdańsk, we stopped with my Danish travel group at Mały Holender in Żelichowo - a beautifully restored Żuławy farmhouse where history meets local cuisine. We tasted potato babka with meat and mushroom sauce and homemade elderflower lemonade - all made with love and regional tradition. 💚 If you want to feel the real spirit of Poland, this is the kind of place to visit. 🌾✨

On our way back to Gdańsk from Malbork (which I’ll write about later), our group of travelers from Denmark - who visit Poland every year and whom I have the pleasure to guide - stopped at a truly special place: Mały Holender in Żelichowo.

It’s more than just a restaurant - it’s a beautifully restored historic Żuławy house, rebuilt by its owners in the original layout, with great care and respect for the region’s heritage. They’re passionate about preserving local traditions and bringing old Żuławy recipes back to life in their kitchen.

For lunch, we had potato babka with meat and mushroom sauce, hearty and full of flavor, followed by homemade elderflower lemonade - fresh, fragrant, and perfectly summery.

It was one of those quiet, authentic moments on the road when food, history, and place come together - and you feel grateful to experience it all. 🌿✨

Good food and good service matter a lot to us at Polsca Tours - they set the tone for the whole travel experience. Whenever we host groups from abroad in Poland, we always choose restaurants that truly reflect our hospitality, places where quality, atmosphere, and care for guests go hand in hand.

Sharing good moments around the table feels like sharing a part of our country. For us great dining is more than food - it’s connection, warmth, and memory.

I recently visited the Amber Altar in St. Bridget’s Basilica in Gdańsk, and it took my breath away! It’s the largest amber artwork in the world - about three times bigger than the Amber Room and serves as the basilica’s main altar. Spanning roughly 120 m², it has been created over a quarter of a century, using around one ton (!) of Baltic amber shaped and set by master artisans. Under the church lights the surface shifts from honey to deep gold, so the whole sanctuary seems to glow from within.

St. Bridget’s Basilica itself, just a short walk from the Old Town, blends quiet Gothic dignity with the spirit of Gdańsk’s resilience and craft. Standing there, you feel both the intimacy of a place of prayer and the grandeur of a national artwork.

The altar is sometimes called the “Amber Altar of the Homeland,” and the name fits the piece feels like a luminous tribute to the Baltic and to Polish history. If you’re in Gdańsk, don’t just read about it, but step inside, let your eyes adjust, and watch the amber begin to shine.

I recently visited the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk with a group from Denmark that I was guiding - and it turned out to be one of those places that truly stay with you. The exhibition tells the story of Poland’s journey from life under Soviet influence to becoming part of the European Union - and it does so in a way that’s both powerful and deeply human.

There are films, recordings, personal stories, and objects that make history feel very real and close. My group was genuinely moved - and so was I. It’s not just a museum, it’s an emotional experience that helps you understand what political changes really means in the Polish context.

The Cloth Hall in , known as , is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, standing proudly in the heart of the Main Market Square. Once a vibrant hub of international trade, it connected merchants from across Europe, exchanging silk, salt, and precious metals. Today, it’s home to stalls full of local art, amber jewelry, and beautiful handmade crafts.

The Renaissance architecture and warm glow of the building at night make it one of Kraków’s most photogenic spots. Walking through the Sukiennice feels like touching the city’s living history - elegant, colorful, and full of charm.
