The impact of Spirit Airlines' shutdown continues to grow in metro Atlanta, with more than 600 employees now facing layoffs as the airline winds down operations. Newly filed documents show that 653 workers based at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are being terminated, highlighting the local effects of the carrier's collapse after it ceased operations earlier this year.

According to the filing, the first phase of job separations began May 2, with flight attendants making up the majority of the affected workforce. The layoffs come as former employees search for new opportunities and other airlines expand operations in the market. While the closure's impact on travelers was immediately visible, the latest filings provide a clearer picture of the workforce losses now facing metro Atlanta.
