๐ฌ๐ง Before the iconic Luรญs I Bridge, it was the Suspension Bridge (Ponte D. Maria II), inaugurated in 1843, that dominated the crossing between the two banks of the Douro. A light, suspended structure that, for decades, served as the main link between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
With the construction of the new bridge in 1887, the Suspension Bridge was dismantled, leaving only memory and its pillars behind.

๐ต๐น Antes da icรณnica Ponte Luรญs I, era a Ponte Pรชnsil (ou Ponte D. Maria II), inaugurada em 1843, que dominava a travessia entre as duas margens do Douro. Uma estrutura leve e suspensa que, durante dรฉcadas, foi o principal elo entre Porto e Vila Nova de Gaia.
Com a construรงรฃo da nova ponte, em 1887, a Ponte Pรชnsil foi desmontada, restando apenas a memรณria e os seus pilares.
