🌟25th February 2025 - Americans in Porto: A Tour So Good, They Didn’t Want It to End!🌟

Some experiences are too good to cut short, and that’s exactly what happened when Stephen and Denise, two new residents of Portugal, who welcomed their visiting friends, Maggie and Janet, for what was supposed to be a half-day tour. But as the day unfolded, so did their love for Portuguese flavours, traditions and hospitality, leading to an unforgettable full-day adventure!

Our journey began with a deep dive into Porto’s most treasured export - Port Wine. With each sip, we explored the unique craftsmanship behind these iconic wines, perfectly paired with petiscos that brought out their rich flavours. As they savoured each pairing, stories flowed and their appreciation for Portugal’s wine culture grew.

Next, we wandered through the bustling market, where Denise, Maggie and Janet delighted in discovering handcrafted souvenirs and local specialties to take back home. The excitement continued with a taste of Portuguese beer, followed by a traditional Ginja Shot - because what’s a cultural experience without a little local spirit?

By lunchtime, we made our way to the picturesque fishing village of Afurada, where a feast awaited. Each of us tried a different dish, allowing for a true culinary adventure filled with new flavours. It was here, amidst plates overflowing with fresh seafood and hearty Portuguese classics, that they made the decision—this journey was far from over!

With full hearts (and even fuller stomachs), we set off for the beach, where they enjoyed their very first Porto Tonics - a crisp, refreshing way to soak in the seaside views and put smiles on our faces. This was followed by a leisurely stroll stopping at some charming cafés along the way to toast to new friendships and the joy of discovering Portugal, one sip at a time.

By the end of the day, what started as a simple tour had transformed into something much more - a day of laughter, connection and stories that will be told for years to come.

🌟 25th January 2025 - A Slovenian Symphony in Porto 🌟

Some days unfold like a well-composed melody, and this one was no exception. We had the pleasure of hosting three incredible Slovenians—Jure, a forester with a knack for creative construction, Manca a marketing expert and Ivona, a talented violinist.

Our journey began with a classic introduction to Porto—Port wine tastings. As we sipped, we shared stories of the city’s history, Portugal’s deep connection to wine, and the little secrets that make Porto so special. But Jure had his own idea of how to leave a mark—stacking the empty glasses into what he proudly called a “Pira”, a tower that stood tall as a testament to our growing camaraderie.

Next, we grabbed a cold beer, taking our time to learn more about each other, laughing as we exchanged stories of Slovenia and Portugal. The Ginja shot left the biggest impression—rich, fruity and packing just the right kick, it quickly became the group’s favourite. Tempted to have another, we hesitated, but the ladies wisely persuaded us to move on.

With spirits high, we took in the breathtaking views of Porto before heading to Afurada, the charming fishing village just down the river. Wandering through its colourful streets, we embraced the slower rhythm of life, pausing to enjoy a couple of refreshing glasses of Vinho Verde and a light snack, knowing we had already indulged in plenty.

As the day gently faded, we made our way to the perfect sunset spot, where the golden hues of the sky painted a picture worthy of a masterpiece. With the final sip of Bagaço, Portugal’s fiery spirit, we toasted to a day well spent—a blend of laughter, discovery, and new friendships.

🌟 29th December 2024 - A Macedonian-Dutch Connection in Porto 🌟

What an incredible day with Toni and Olja Itov, two Macedonians living in South Africa, and Shannen Burg, an Erasmus student from the Netherlands, visiting old friends! This unique blend of cultures made for a lively and unforgettable tour.

The adventure kicked off with a thunderous start—literally! Hundreds of motorcycles roared up and down the Cais de Gaia, creating an electrifying atmosphere that set the tone for the day. With everyone in high spirits, we began our journey with a Port tasting, paired with delicious petiscos, and followed it up with a round of local beer and Ginja shots.

Toni, Olja, and Shannen were keen to have castanhas, and the warm roasted chestnuts didn’t disappoint. Strolling through the local market and shops, we soaked up the vibrant atmosphere, nibbling on the castanhas while they selected some goodies to take home.

Lunch was a feast for the senses as we ordered a variety of dishes to share, perfectly paired with local wine. Conversation flowed as easily as the wine, with laughter and stories connecting us all.

As the early winter sun started going down, we sipped on delectable cocktails, while enjoying the serene ocean views. The day wrapped up with a gentle stroll stopping to visit local cafés, where we were warmly welcomed by the "regulars". Their hospitality, lively conversations and warm smiles were the perfect ending to an extraordinary day.

🌟 20th October 2024 - Gerrit, Mariette & Markus: A Family Reunion with a Twist! 🌟

What an incredible day we had with Gerrit, Mariette, and their son Markus! Having recently made Portugal their home, Gerrit and Mariette decided to give Markus a true taste of Porto during his visit, and what a day it turned out to be!

We kicked things off with a Port wine tasting that set the tone for the adventure ahead. From there, we dove headfirst into Porto’s vibrant food and drink scene. Lunch in the picturesque fishing village of Afurada was an absolute feast, with freshly grilled seafood, prepared in front of us on the churrasco, lively conversation and of course, plenty of wine.

But why stop there? After overindulging in the local delicacies, we decided to take things up a notch with a "Meet the Locals" pub crawl. As we moved from one café to the next, we engaged friendly locals who welcomed us with open arms (and more drinks, naturally). The highlight of the night? At our final stop, a man on horseback casually arrived for his drink, leaving us all wide-eyed and grinning. Even the local "horse whisperer" enjoyed the visit. An unforgettable moment that added an extra dash of magic to an already perfect day.

Thank you, Gerrit Dyman, Mariette, and Markus, for bringing so much warmth and laughter to the tour. It was a pleasure to show you around Porto’s hidden corners and help create memories to last a lifetime. Até à próxima, Saúde! 🍷🐴🍻

🌟 13th October 2024 - Elias & Paola’s Whirlwind Porto Experience 🌟

Elias and Paola's visit to Porto was short but packed with unforgettable moments! Fresh from a conference in Lisbon, they joined us for a whirlwind adventure that perfectly blended Porto’s flavours, sights and charm.

Our day began with a delightful Port wine tasting, where Elias was tempted to take home a huge 5L bottle of 20-year-old tawny, but sense prevailed and chose several small ones instead. Elias and Paola had a glorious shopping spree gathering thoughtful gifts for family and friends back home, filling their bags with loads of local treasures.

A sumptuous fish lunch in a quaint fishing village eatery was the perfect way to refuel before heading into the heart of Porto for some sightseeing. The crowning jewel of the day? Crossing the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge at sunset, where the golden hues of the sky mirrored the Douro rivers timeless beauty.

To wrap up their adventure, they savoured a classic Francesinha for dinner, a rich and hearty finale to a day full of new discoveries.

Elias and Paola, thank you for making this whirlwind tour so memorable. Your curiosity and zest for Porto’s culture made every moment a delight. We hope your treasures and memories bring a smile whenever you think of us. Until next time, Saúde! 🍷☀🐟

🌟21st May 2024 - Mark and Amanda’s Porto Adventure: Two Exciting Chapters! 🌟

Mark De Freitas and Amanda's tour was truly unique, unfolding in two exciting chapters to accommodate their travel schedule. This personalised journey gave them the perfect taste of Porto’s hidden charm.
The first afternoon began with a light lunch by the beach, complemented by copious glasses of Vinho Verde. We then enjoyed a scenic stroll along the beach-front, taking in the captivating beauty of Porto’s natural landscapes.
The following morning started at the iconic Cais de Gaia, with a Port tasting and petisco pairing. From there, we embarked on a lively shopping adventure before concluding with a decadent lunch in the little village of Afurada.

🌟21st April 2024 - What an Unforgettable Day with Eric, Carol, and Kyle! 🌟

We had an absolute blast hosting Eric Jacobson, Carol and their son, Kyle, on our "Eat, Drink and Live Like a Local in Porto for a Day" tour. Their enthusiasm was contagious, making every moment truly special!
We started the day with a Port tasting paired with delicious petiscos, set against the noisy backdrop of hundreds of motorcycles visiting the Cais de Gaia. Lunch in the picturesque fishing village of Afurada was a feast of fresh seafood, lively conversation and lashings of Vinho Verde.
The fun continued with a sunny stop at the beach, where we soaked up the sunshine and braved the icy waves. To wrap up, we enjoyed a round of pool at a cozy local café and finished the day with a traditional café and bagaço.
