Migration Timeline and Location
• December – March (Southern Serengeti/Ndutu): The herds gather on the short-grass plains for the calving season, with half a million calves born around February.
• April – June (Central/Western Serengeti): The herds move north/northwest, mating occurs, and they face the Grumeti River crossing.
• July – October (Northern Serengeti/Masai Mara): The herds cross the treacherous Mara River into Kenya's Masai Mara, with peak crossings typically from late July to September.
• November – December (Return to Southern Serengeti): The herds return south to the Serengeti plains to repeat the cycle.
