He didn't flinch. He didn't stop. He just walked straight toward us.

Twenty years guiding safaris in Tanzania, and I promise you — no two elephant encounters are ever the same.

This old bull in Tarangire stopped time for everyone in that vehicle. Look at those tusks. Look at that posture. This is a elephant who has seen generations come and go. He owes no one respect — and yet somehow, being in his presence feels like the greatest privilege on earth.

People always ask me: what's the most magical moment you've ever witnessed on safari?"
I never have one answer. But mornings like this one always find their way to the top of the list.
