🌧️🌴 WHEN RAIN STARTS IN ZANZIBAR – HONEST WEATHER UPDATE 🌴🌦️

If you’re planning a trip to Zanzibar, knowing when the rainy season begins helps you choose the best time to visit for sun, beaches, and tours.

Here’s the real climate pattern for Zanzibar based on weather data:

📍 MAIN (Long) RAINY SEASON
The long rains typically start around mid‑March and continue through April and May.

These months receive the most rainfall of the year, with April being the wettest month. Showers often fall in the afternoons and evenings, though mornings can still be sunny.

📍 SHORT RAINY SEASON
There is also a short rainy period that usually begins in November and can last into early December, with lighter, intermittent showers.

📍 BEFORE THE RAIN STARTS
January and February are generally dry and hot, with low rain chances before the long rains begin.

📍 DRY SEASON (Less Rain)
From June to October is the main dry period — very little rain, plenty of sunshine, and excellent beach weather.

🌦️ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU AS A VISITOR..?

✔ January–February: Mostly dry and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, beach days & boat tours.

✔ Mid‑March–May: Expect increasing rain, especially in April — still warm but wetter.

✔ June–October: Best weather of the year — sunny skies and calm seas.

✔ November–December: Light short rains, but also lots of sunshine.

🌴 TRAVEL TIP
Even during the rainy seasons, Zanzibar often has sunny breaks between showers, and rain rarely lasts all day long.

🌴 March in Zanzibar✨🌴

What exactly you have to know before booking your holiday in March 2026.

March in Zanzibar is a warm, tropical month with a mix of beautiful beach days, cultural experiences, and the start of seasonal weather changes.

It’s a peaceful time on the island, with fewer crowds, softer beach vibes, and a calm atmosphere due to the ongoing Ramadan period.

If you are planning to visit Zanzibar in March, here is the honest breakdown of what you can expect:

✅ POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT MARCH IN ZANZIBAR

Warm temperatures (28–32°C) — perfect for beach relaxation

Less crowded beaches — more privacy and space

Cheaper hotel rates — mid–low season advantages

Beautiful sunsets especially in Nungwi & Kendwa

Tours are still operating normally

Good snorkeling on calm days

Peaceful cultural vibe because of Ramadan evenings

Local markets are lively at night after iftar

⚠️ REAL CHALLENGES YOU SHOULD KNOW

Light rains may begin towards the end of March as April rainy season approaches

Humidity is higher compared to early months

Ocean can be windy with moderate waves on some days — boat rides may feel bumpy

Visibility for snorkeling can drop depending on the wind

Ramadan rules in local areas:
Eating/drinking in public streets during daytime is not allowed

Some local restaurants open only in the evening

Village tours may have adjusted timing

Nightlife is quieter during Ramadan

East coast may experience stronger tides

🌴 OVERALL FEELING IN MARCH
March is great if you enjoy warm weather, calm cultural vibes, better hotel prices, and fewer crowds.

Just come prepared for some humidity, occasional wind, and light showers near the end of the month — and respect Ramadan customs when moving in local areas.

Zanzibar remains beautiful… just in a softer, calmer version of paradise.
