Fencher Safaris Uganda: Professional Travel Tips
1. Navigating the Election Week (Jan 13–20, 2026)
While our national parks remain peaceful and fully operational, we recommend a "Safari First" strategy.
Pro-Tip: If your flight lands this week, we will facilitate a smooth transfer directly from Entebbe to the wilderness. Avoiding major urban rallies in Kampala and Jinja on the 15th ensures your journey remains focused on the serenity of nature.
Security: Expect an increased security presence on major roads; this is a standard measure to ensure everyone’s safety, and our Fencher Safaris drivers are well-versed in navigating these checkpoints efficiently.
2. Primate Trekking Essentials
Since you’re likely here for our famous 6-Day Primate Safari, preparation is key to your comfort in Bwindi or Kibale.
The "Tuck-In" Rule: Always tuck your trousers into your long socks to prevent safari ants from climbing up.
Gardening Gloves: They aren't just for the yard! Use them to grab onto branches or vines during steep gorilla treks without worrying about thorns or stinging nettles.
3. Connectivity & Digital Presence
Offline Maps & Communication: During election cycles, internet speeds can sometimes fluctuate in urban areas. We recommend downloading offline maps of your route and keeping our office WhatsApp number saved for direct satellite or cellular calls.
Photography: Uganda is incredibly photogenic, but please avoid taking photos of government buildings, bridges, or security personnel, especially during this high-activity week.
4. The "Pearl of Africa" Etiquette
Tipping: Our guides at Fencher Safaris are cultural ambassadors. While tipping is at your discretion, a standard gesture is $10–$15 per person per day for your guide, and about 10% in local restaurants.
Hydration: Always stick to bottled water (which we provide in all our vehicles) even for brushing your teeth in more remote lodges.
A Note from Geofrey and Janepher
"At Fencher Safaris Uganda, we don't just show you the animals; we connect you to the soul of our homeland. Your safety and inspiration are our top priorities.
