A RAINBOW OVER THE PETERSBURG TOLLHOUSE is pictured after rainstorms of Saturday, June 14, 2025. The native stone of the tollhouse is looking especially vivid. The newness of post-rain air is another reason to love an old 1835 tollhouse.

Emily Schubert (schubertemily) and the team at Tissue Farm are putting the final touches on Emily’s exhibit running this month. Join them for the Exhibit Opening from 5-7pm this evening, Saturday, June 14th, and then head across the street to Pamela’s Pints & Provisions for a craft cocktail and a flatbread to celebrate! It’s a good weekend in Confluence!

Somerset County has extended a temporary closure of the Great Allegheny Passage between Garrett (mile marker 36.5) and Rockwood (mile marker 43.8 or so) to Wednesday, June 4, so that professional contractors can continue using heavy equipment onto the trail to perform preliminary drilling and investigative work in advance of a proposed 170-foot trail reroute. The work may be extended for several more days depending on what they find and how it impacts plans to construct the reroute. There is no detour.

The Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy has arranged for Allegheny Trail House and 2WheelEscapes to provide a free shuttle for bicyclists and hikers between the Garrett and Rockwood trail access points from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 4, as it did yesterday. The shuttle will run continuously during this time and it will be first-come, first-served. There may be a wait of between 15 and 75 minutes depending on how busy the shuttles are.

If the closure is extended to Thursday, the Great Allegheny Passage Conservancy will attempt to arrange a free shuttle service between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm that day. No plans have been made for subsequent days, and if you are planning a trip along this section of the GAP for this coming weekend, you may wish to plan to arrange and pay for shuttle service by directly contacting one of these shuttle services.
