šŸ“Sassolungo (info below ā¬‡ļø)

This Rifugio can be reached via gondola at the town of Campitello do Fassa. There are quite a few cute towns along this stretch of road in the valley.

The gondola is large and takes you HIGH up the mountain. We arrived right when it opened in mid-July and had no trouble getting a spot (and they didn’t crowd the gondolas either). When we returned later that day there was no one going up or down the gondolas 🚠

From here you can go up the famous coffin gondola to an insane Rifugio nestled between these mountains (it’s in this video but you can barely see it). Or you could spend the day hiking or mountain biking the area. There’s also are many rifugios with restaurants up here as well as playgrounds too!

There’s also a road if you want to drive the switchbacks up the mountain instead of paying for the gondola.

Comment 14DAY for the detailed guide to this 14 day Alaska itinerary (including restaurant rec’s, lodging, specific tours, etc)

With 14 days you can experience a lot of Alaska!

On this trip you’ll head to Denali by train, then make your way south to Homer and Seward. 🐻 Bear viewing, šŸ‹ whale watching, 🧊 glaciers, šŸ”ļø hiking (optional), and much more is packed into this trip.

Instead of renting a car for the entire trip and spending $$$, you’ll only need one for half of it.

This itinerary was crafted based on my 25 years growing up and living in Alaska as an adult.

I kinda thought we were heading toward a tourist trap.

I’d heard the name of this town many times and read it’s gorgeous but that’s really all I knew. So with little else to go on we took a short cab from Nice to the village one morning.

And although there were many touristy shops scattered about, there were also incredible artisans with beautiful products. And this hilly town was a feast for the eyes. At every turn up and down winding steps a new scene unveiled itself.

And the views of the sea from this cliffside village provided an incredible Birds Eye view.

šŸ“I recommend paying to walk the exotic gardens at the top. Stop in at one of the perfumeries.

šŸ“For an (expensive) and incredible drink with a view, stop in at Le Cafe du Jardin.

šŸ“ And if you love olive oil, I couldn’t believe the flavors they came up with at Deli’.

Even though we spent just a few hours here, it’s a place I’ll remember fondly.

Can you relate?

That feeling of ā€˜wow! We are actually here’ after planning or dreaming of a trip for so long 😊
