Often referred to as The Cottle Creek Cabin, I renamed this hidden gem to the Lochloosa Cabin in recognition of the sentiments of JJ Grey… and I pray that developers never find her hidden coves. off-grid getaway tucked deep in the woods of South Alabama, perched beside the winding waters of Cottle Creek. Designed for comfort, simplicity, and soul-deep rest, the cabin runs completely off solar power with battery storage and propane backup—so you’re never truly “roughing it” but you’re never on the grid either. And, while it has A/C, we ask guests to use it thoughtfully to help conserve energy. Water comes from our private well, naturally filtered through layers of sand and limestone. It’s clean, refreshing, and free of chlorine and fluoride—so don’t be surprised if it tastes better than city water… and ask any old timer around here and he will tell you, “its a lot better for you too!"

Ideal for couples seeking peace and quiet, artists needing solitude, digital nomads, photographers or just someone who needs a little healing time - the cabin comfortablly sleeps two in the double bed, but it also includes a cozy loft with twin beds. Wildlife is abundant—deer, fish, raccoons, wood ducks, osprey, turtles, beavers, and every song bird you ca imagine… why even the occasional turkey might wander through your view! At Lochloosa, you’ll trade noise for stillness, screens for stars, and hurry for slow. Come stay off the grid—and maybe find yourself in the process.

Here’s a little tip for you if your going to make S’mores…

Lay an untreated piece of wood across some portion of your coals and use it as a table. Heat your Graham crackers and chocolate- until the chocolate is squishy- while your toasting your marshmallow!

My friend Mark made me this shirt from a photo I took at The Lochloosa Cabin . The girls gave me Shep, the big white dog for Christmas last year. Cape brought Bambi home from the shelter. She is a gift too. So are all my girls.

Lots to be thankful for on this beautiful fall day.

First camp fire of Fall for us last night at the The Lochloosa Cabin . Hannah was by my side. We had hot off the grill Carribean jerk chicken. The temperature was down in the 60s. The flames flickered and the crickets sang. If I was a drinkin’ man I would have popped the top on a can of Old Milwaukee while saying “It just doesn’t get any better than this!”

The sunset this time of the year spectacular. If you wanna come see one for yourself, text (334) 343-7251 to inquire about available dates and make reservations. There are still a few dates left open in November.

And this is South Alabama… The Peek fall foliage won’t hit until sometime at the end of October through mid November. And the daytime highs in November are typically in the 60s and 70s and it’s always quite nice.

Five inches of rain yesterday… so the creek is up really high. But thank the Lord the cabin sits down in a river bottom. No wind damage at all.
