Here we come! The 2025 Astoria Riverfront Trolley season is about to begin! March 22 at 11 am we’re back on the rails with passengers. The fare is still $1.00. For those unfamiliar, the trolley route begins at the Riverwalk Inn and turns around at Pier 39. You can come aboard anywhere along the route. Plenty of stops along the way for shopping and exploring. The route runs right along the riverfront with lots to see and great views of the Mighty Columbia. We’ll even tell you some stories about Astoria, the oldest permanent American settlement west of the Rockies. The trolley will run 1-4 pm on weekdays and and 11-5 on weekends. A reminder, we don’t run in the rain and we don’t run on Wednesdays so we can perform maintenance.

Please note: You will see the trolley on the rails before March 22. We will not be taking on passengers at that time. Each year our motormen must re-certify to operate the trolley. Think of it as a mandatory driving test. That’s what we’ll be doing.

See you on the 22nd! Ding ding! 🚎

And that’s a wrap. You may have seen Tram 183 on the trolley tracks last week. This was a shakedown cruise to determine her maintenance needs that will be addressed over the winter. You’ll see Tram 183 making special runs in 2025. She’ll be fitted with a battery which will eliminate the need for a generator.

October 31st will end this, our 25th season. Thanks to all you passengers and supporters it’s been a successful and fun year! Thank you so much! Old 300 will be back on the tracks next spring.

Who owns Astoria’s Riverfront Trolley?

During all the shutdowns, Covid, Buoy Beer collapse, etc. we read several posts about the trolley and tax payer dollars. Seems like a good time to explain ourselves:

Old 300 is owned by the Astoria Riverfront Trolley Association. Nobody else. We are a group of volunteers who conduct/drive/maintain the trolley simply because we enjoy it and we love the old girl. Some people hunt, fish, golf, raise salamanders, crochet, whatever. We do this.
We keep her on the rails through fares, donations, kiosk advertising, in-trolley static advertising, and special runs. We do not receive funding from any government agency and we don’t want to. YOU keep us on the rails.
We have charged $1 to ride our trolley for the last 25 years, and even though it’s been suggested we raise the fare, we have not and don’t plan to. It comes up every couple years and is always soundly voted down. Things have been tough at times but we’ve always come through thanks to you!
So, climb aboard fellow taxpayer. The dollar you hand us goes to fuel, lubrication, insurance, and general maintenance. Nothing else. 🚎

Friendly reminder: Old 300 has come to the end of our 2023 season. Our last run was October 31 and we’ve put the old girl in the barn for winter and much needed maintenance. Thank you all for a great trolley season! We made many new friends and it was great seeing old friends again. We should be back on the rails for spring break and in 2024 you might just see a surprise or two! Ding ding! 🚃
