On September 18, 2026 Southeast Ohio History Center will present “Heritage Square: The Uptown Athens Historic Walking Tour” in collaboration with the Ohio History Connection’s Ohio Open Doors program. Ohio Open Doors allows stewards of historic buildings, places and spaces, to open their doors to the public for special tours and programs. All of which are FREE to attend!

The Athens Historic Landmarks Walking Tour will open its historical and ancestral doors to some of the city’s most notable and storied sites, each reflecting a unique aspect of Athens’ vibrant past and present. From restored community hubs to architectural marvels, you’ll discover fascinating histories, beautiful buildings, and the enduring spirit of Athens at every stop.

If you’re in Athens this week you’re going to be seeing a lot of little cars zipping around town.

These cars, called King Midgets, were first manufactured in 1946 right here in Athens, Ohio.

The public is invited to see these vehicles up close during cruise-in events held as part of the 2026 International King Midgets Jamboree.

Find them at 3-6 PM on Thursday at The Market on State and from 5-7 PM on Friday along South Court Street in Uptown Athens.
