One very nice thing about river cruises is there really is not a bad one. (I can't say the same for all-inclusives or ocean cruises...there are some that are quite terrible).

But they're not all the same. River cruise lines differ in ship size and atmosphere, itinerary flexibility, price and value, and the destinations on offer. So finding the right fit for *you* still matters.

WHERE TO STAY WEDNESDAY: THREE FORKS RANCH, COLORADO

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to sit down with the team at Three Forks Ranch, and it confirmed what I’ve heard. This place is special.

Sitting on 280,000 acres along the Colorado-Wyoming border, 40 miles north of Steamboat Springs, Three Forks has no crowds and no noise except the kind nature makes. Just 27 rooms, a staff-to-guest ratio that borders on absurd, and an all-inclusive program that means everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from fly fishing to spa treatments to a glass of wine at dinner is already taken care of.

Days are built around riding trails that could double as a film set, casting lines on 16 miles of private trout water, or doing nothing in particular. Evenings, the management dines with guests. It’s that kind of place.

A Mayo Clinic wellness partnership, luxury tree house accommodations, and private skiing round out a property that has quietly become one of the American West’s most considered escapes. Not flashy. Just exceptional.

Client Spotlight ✦ Viking River Cruises

We recently sat down with clients Denise & Frank for a post-trip feedback conversation, and it was a good one. ☕ Client feedback is important. It makes us smarter for future trips and helps us understand our clients a little bit more.

They had just returned from Viking's Pharaohs & Pyramids river cruise and they LOVED the trip. From the moment they landed, the white-glove service was in full effect. Bags handled seamlessly, every detail taken care of. They felt safe, looked after, and cared for from start to finish.

A few tips straight from Denise & Frank:

🍽️ Order half portions of different entrees at meals. A genius way to sample Egyptian cuisine without committing to a full plate.

👣 Watch your footing on excursions. Uneven ground, limited handrails. Stop before you look around. Your tour director will keep you informed every step of the way.

🏺 Don't wait on the Valley of the Kings. The tombs will at some point be closed to protect them from exposure.

🛏️ The staterooms are fantastic. Impressive storage and plenty of room to unwind after a day of ancient wonders.

The excursions were rich with history and they came home having learned so much. The tour directors were attentive, informative, and great at keeping everyone safe and engaged throughout.

Denise & Frank are already dreaming ahead. I'm researching Mediterranean voyages and Antarctica for 2028 and 2029, and excited to see what they choose!
