The thing about river cruises is that it’s all about getting off the ship and exploring your environment. Here’s what we were able to see and do on our Roam by Tauck Portugal cruise. This new brand is targeted to those in their 40s and 50s so activities are a bit more physically challenging than the std river cruise options.

Kayaking for a couple hours… quite chill, actually.

We went out in the late evening to see the Coa Valley open air rock engravings that are upwards of 25,000 years old.

We learned a lot about port wine. The drink of choice onboard was the port and tonics made with the white port - quite good!

There are worse ways to start a day than yoga along a vineyard.

Learning to make the Portuguese pastries.

A very nice bike ride on a protected bike path. The 2% grade gave us a bit of a workout.

More port - this was a port blending workshop.

When you name the top arts and cultural destinations in the U.S., is Bentonville, Arkansas on your list?

Bentonville has quickly grown into a creative mecca, featuring the world-class Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, a blossoming gallery and culinary scene, and the one of the most celebrated hike/bike trail and outdoor parks systems in the nation.

This October (Oct 15-18), we are working with the Long Center Collective, the patron membership program for Austin's Long Center for the Performing Arts, to bring their members to Bentonville for a long weekend centered on that same spirit of discovery.

The Collective is made up of experience seekers and arts supporters who back Austin's creative community, and they chose Bentonville for this year's annual trip because it captures what they love: finding meaning and connection in unexpected corners of the art world.

Porto to the heart of the Douro Valley! This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site looks like from the water.

Bjorn and I and friends just spent 8 days sailing with Roam by Tauck and I’m still daydreaming about biking along the terraced vineyards.

We had an overnight stop in Istanbul between Singapore and Portugal — my first time in Istanbul! Here’s what I discovered:

1 - The little taste of this city was not enough - I would like to go back and spend more time here. The cruise on the Bosporus showed beautiful, high end homes, mosques and more on both the Asia and Europe sides. The streets were colorful, fresh and intriguing. Other guests on the boat ride shared their adventures (and meals) with enthusiasm.
2 - The airport lounge is supposed to be one of the best in the world and it was indeed epic. It’s huge with station after station of hot bites, Mediterranean salads 🥗, Turkish coffee and sweet treats. You can even stay in little sleep pods. We ended up hanging out for hours after our arrival, working and snacking.

I’m the travel advisor in the family, but Bjorn loves all things aviation (and bargains) and found a less-crazy way for us to experience Singapore Airlines Suites.

Best flight experience ever.

We had two suites that opened up into one shared space with a full size double bed. We enjoyed an excellent meal (caviar, champagne, lobster dumplings) with a lovely Bordeaux and then changed into pajamas for some quality sleep.

Was it a short six hour flight? Yes.
Did we have to transfer in Delhi with its painful arrival forms and then a 6:30am flight the next day? Also yes.

Worth it. Felt like a rock star.
