🌍 The Travel Five: 5 Things to Research Before Choosing a Destination
A destination can look perfect in photos and still not be the right fit once you start looking at the details.
Before we narrow down where someone should travel, these are five things worth researching:
1️⃣ Season and crowds
What will the weather actually be like? Is it peak season, shoulder season, rainy season, or a particularly busy time of year?
2️⃣ Getting around
Is the destination walkable? Will you need a rental car, public transportation, private transfers, or taxis? How much of the vacation could be spent simply getting from place to place?
3️⃣ Costs and value
Look beyond airfare and hotel prices. Dining, transportation, attractions, resort fees, excursions, and local taxes can make two seemingly similar destinations very different in overall cost.
4️⃣ What’s beyond the famous attractions
Research neighborhoods, food, markets, scenery, local experiences, nearby towns, and the things you can enjoy when you’re not checking off the major sights.
5️⃣ Accessibility and comfort
Terrain, distances, transportation, heat, crowds, accessible entrances, accommodations, and mobility requirements can all affect how comfortable and enjoyable a destination will be.
The goal isn’t simply to find a great destination.
It’s to find a great destination for the way you want to travel.
