The Wild Gardens of Acadia is ready for visitors!

As of May 1st, carriage roads have reopened!

Carriage roads have reopened to all uses.

Thank you to all of our visitors who respected our annual closure of the carriage roads during the spring thaw, also known as "mud season." This closure helps our teams preserve these one-of-a-kind cultural resources during a time in which they are extremely fragile.

While you are out having fun on the carriage roads, please remember the carriage roads are used for various types of recreation. Pedestrians must yield to horses and cyclists must yield to horses and pedestrians. Only Class 1 e-bikes are allowed on carriage roads. Motorized vehicles and Class 2 & 3 e-bikes are prohibited.

March is the start of Peregrine Falcon Nesting Season in Acadia National Park!

Please take note of the following hiking trails are temporarily closed until further notice:
“Jordan Cliffs Trail, Penobscot East Trail, Precipice Trail, and Valley Cove Trail are closed to protect nesting peregrine falcons.”

To provide peregrine falcons adequate space for nesting, the National Park Service temporarily closed areas including Jordan Cliffs Trail, Precipice Trail, and Valley Cove Trail in Acadia National Park until further notice starting March 1. In addition, the parking lot for the Precipice Trail will remain closed to vehicles until further notice. These annual closures protect the peregrine falcons from inadvertent human disturbance or harassment during the nesting period.
