This church has burned down twice. ⛪ Old Sheldon Church in Beaufort County was first destroyed by the British in 1779, rebuilt decades later, and then burned again by Sherman's troops in 1865. Only the brick columns and empty window arches remain, standing quietly beneath ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Weddings and photographers still visit the ruins today, drawn to the eerie beauty of a sanctuary that refused to fully disappear. Locals say it's one of the most photographed ruins in the entire Lowcountry. 🤔 Would you get married in a 250-year-old ruin like this?

What an incredible response to our first Author in Residence experience at Coastal Loft in Habersham Village, hosted by Penelope Properties Inc. and coordinated by our events and marketing team.

Over three unforgettable days, seven events brought together neighbors, businesses, readers and friends from throughout Beaufort and the Lowcountry to welcome author Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson and celebrate Within the House of Murdaugh.

From conversations and book signings to coffee at Coastal Loft, trivia, private gatherings and community events, what made the experience so special was you—the people who showed up, participated, hosted, shared and helped us bring the idea to life.
