Nothing gives me goosebumps quite like sharing the magic of Africa with others. Through Journey to Africa Safaris, I do exactly that. Hi, I am Mefi and I create life-changing Safaris to my home country of Tanzania and other amazing Eastern and Southern African countries. Majority of the Safaris I plan, I am taking you to places I have been to myself and with partners I trust. During our Safari pla

nning stage, our aim is for you to say, 'that was easy'! Our goal is to cut the overwhelm, make the Safari planning as easy for you as possible, and take you to the right places at the right time, with the right people on the ground. We can't wait to hear your stories on your 'Journey to Africa'.

Cape Town isn’t just a city. It’s a feeling. It’s whales breaching at sunset. Wandering the beautiful winery of Stellenbosch or Franschhoek. Stopping to say hi to the African penguins at Boulders Beach. It's the kind of soul-stirring beauty that stays with you long after you leave. The kind that when you close your eyes months later, you still see the majestic Table Mountain.

Let’s carve out time for Cape Town. Give it a few days so you can fully experience the beauty, the flavors, the rhythm, and the moments that make it one of the most treasured corners of Africa.

Beautiful images from Tintswalo and The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa in Cape Town and Leeu Estates in Franschhoek.

Serian’s Serengeti Lamai feels so special to me, and not just because it’s built by our friend Alex Walker. His lodges in both Kenya and Tanzania have one thing in common: they’re cozy – just the right size for real human connection. You’re not just another face in the crowd here. Every guest is known by name, every detail thoughtfully taken care of.

One of my favorite things? As the sun sets, we gather around the table for dinner with the camp manager and fellow Safari-goers. The conversation lingers well past the last bite, swapping wildlife stories, diving deep into what makes this place tick, and hearing firsthand about the conservation work that matters so much.

Places like this are why I do what I do. You come for the wild sights, but you leave with something way more lasting: new friends, unforgettable stories, and a deeper connection to Africa itself.

Some of my clients just returned from a trek in the mountains of Rwanda, and wow, the photos they shared say it all.

Base camp was the beautiful Virunga Lodge, perched above twin lakes with views that stop you in your tracks. But the real magic? That moment deep in the forest, when you come face to face with a mountain gorilla family.

Nothing prepares you for it.

So proud to have helped these travelers make it happen 💛 Thinking about gorilla trekking? Let’s talk about what it’s really like… and how to do it right.

My guests are heading to beautiful Nyerere National Park, Tanzania – and I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about the experiences that await them!

At just under 12,000 square miles, this is Africa's largest national park, but size isn't what makes it special.

- It's waking up to complete silence broken only by hippo grunts echoing across the Rufiji River - you have open bandas when staying at our favorite Sand River Safari Camp [].
- It's boat Safaris through channels where crocodiles glide like ancient guardians and fish eagles keep a watchful eye for fishes. You get to catch and release tiger fish as well.
- It's walking Safaris where you know you are being watched by elephants on your morning walk.
- It's wild dogs like our friend and guest Alex Fine captured on his Safari with us. Happy Birthday Alex!

For my guests who crave that authentic, untouched Africa experience – Nyerere always delivers. Let's chat about why this should be your next adventure!

Photos taken at Nyerere National Park [formerly known as Selous Game Reserve] from my Safari in 2018 with my friend and guest Sally.

If you’re visiting a village or meeting locals during your Safari, remember to ask before snapping a photo.

It might seem simple, but it’s a small act of respect that goes a long way. A smile, a greeting, and a quick “Is it okay if I take a photo?” shows that you see the person – not just the picture.

Safari isn’t just about the wildlife… it’s about the people too. Let’s make those connections meaningful.

Esirai Camp moves for the wildebeest!

This intimate mobile camp follows the Great Migration across the Serengeti, from the open plains in the South to the river crossings up North. It’s remote, peaceful, and always right where the wildlife is.

My guests who come purely for the animals? They LOVE it here. Game drives, guided walks, sundowners, and sometimes even a hot air balloon at dawn…

This is how you FEEL the wild, not just admire it. Thank you Entara!

It’s my birthday!
That’s 49 trips around the sun…

Many of them spent chasing elephants and sipping coffee by campfires (could I be any luckier??)

This work? These wild places? They’re my heart.

So today I'm raising a glass (and maybe a slice of cake) to all of YOU. Guests turned friends, fellow Safari lovers, people who believe travel should feel like connection.

Here’s to more sunrises on game drives. More surprise lion sightings. More moments that matter.

And yes... maybe one day we’ll celebrate your birthday out on Safari, too 😉

Waterberry Zambezi Lodge, Livingstone, Zambia sits right by the Zambezi River near Livingstone – and I’ve been sending more and more guests here lately.

It’s simple in all the best ways: cozy rooms, warm service, peaceful river views… and yes, those gorgeous sunset cruises that make your heart slow down just enough to take it all in.

You’re close enough to experience everything Livingstone has to offer (falls tours! village visits! boat rides!), but removed enough from the bustle that your mornings start with birdsong instead of bus horns.

If you’re looking for comfort, connection, and calm? This little riverside gem might be calling your name.

You can see lions, elephants, even leopards on Safari… but if you spot a pangolin?

That’s something for the books.

These shy, scaly little creatures are Africa’s most elusive mammals – almost mythical in how rarely they’re seen. I’ve only ever had a handful of clients spot one in all my years planning Safaris.

They look like pinecones with legs (adorable ones!), have tongues longer than your forearm (!!), and are nature’s best termite control team.

But they’re also the most trafficked mammals on Earth.

Consider taking .africa’s free 15-minute Pangolin Guardian course to ensure you’re up to speed on the dos and don’ts if you’re ever lucky enough to see one for yourself!

My Story

Jambo, I am Mefi, owner of Journey To Africa. I am originally from the Safari town of Tanzania. I would love to show you my Tanzania on your Safari but I also plan Safaris to Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, or Zimbabwe - I can be your Safari designer for Eastern and Southern Africa. If you are in Houston, Texas, email me for a Safari chat. I am always up for good coffee or chai so we can sit and create your bespoke Safari to Eastern or Southern Africa.
