Nothing gives me goosebumps quite like sharing the magic of Africa with others. Through Journey to Africa Safaris, I do exactly that. Hi, I am Mefi and I create life-changing Safaris to my home country of Tanzania and other amazing Eastern and Southern African countries. Majority of the Safaris I plan, I am taking you to places I have been to myself and with partners I trust. During our Safari pla

nning stage, our aim is for you to say, 'that was easy'! Our goal is to cut the overwhelm, make the Safari planning as easy for you as possible, and take you to the right places at the right time, with the right people on the ground. We can't wait to hear your stories on your 'Journey to Africa'.

So many of my guests are choosing Botswana for their Safari adventure – and I completely get why. The Okavango Delta alone? Jaw-dropping. Add elephants by the hundreds in Moremi or wild dogs darting through Khwai… and every day feels like a scene out of a nature documentary.

I could go on forever. Read all about why Bots in my blog: https://www.journeytoafrica.com/blog/why-botswana-for-your-safari

Let’s talk about something super practical… money!

Here’s what I always tell my guests (and do myself): keep your cash with you at all times or lock it in a safe.

Even though lodges are generally very safe and welcoming (you’ll feel right at home!), it only takes one moment of forgetfulness (like leaving your bag in the room while heading to dinner), and suddenly you’re wondering: Did I spend it? Misplace it? Did someone take it?

That feeling? Not fun. 😬

So, here’s what I do: I carry my cash in a small travel pouch or f***y pack wherever I go. Easy, secure, no stress.

It may not be glamorous... but trust me: this little habit saves you worry so you can focus on what really matters: elephants, sunsets, and that next yummy bush breakfast!

One of my favorite surprises when exploring Africa? The ocean.

On Safari, we’re often deep in the bush following lion tracks or listening for elephants rumbling through the trees. But head to the coast… and suddenly you’re standing at the edge of something completely different. Wild waves. Salty air. And if you’re lucky? A Southern Right whale breaching far out at sea.

Today, on World Ocean Day, I just want to say this: Africa isn’t only plains and predators. It’s coastlines, too – dramatic ones! The kind where whales pass by during their migration and remind you how big this world really is. This is the continent that just keeps on giving.

You’ve seen the Serengeti from a game vehicle… but have you ever watched elephants cast shadows across golden plains from a hot air balloon at sunrise? Or flown low over Botswana’s Okavango Delta where rivers weave like silk ribbons through lush wetlands?

I’ll never forget lifting off above the Zambezi River as I left the Lower Zambezi National Park. Heart full; eyes wide. Seeing Africa from above… it’s an experience that never leaves you.

There are places that just stay with you – Lamai Serengeti, in Serengeti National Park is one of mine.

Tucked into a kopje in Northern Serengeti, Tanzania with views that go on forever... this spot is magic. I’ve been sending guests here for years – not just because of the location (which is incredible), but because of the people. Lawrence and James manage it like pros. The guides? Some of my absolute favorites.

And yes, I’m always on WhatsApp letting them know when my guests are arriving: “These are my people!” Because when you Safari with me, you're not going in cold... you’re already among friends.

Can't wait for you to experience this place on your Tanzania Safari.

You’ve landed in Tanzania. You’re tired but buzzing with excitement… now what?

Start slow. Lake Duluti Lodge, tucked under Mount Meru and surrounded by ancient forest (and coffee trees!) is one of my favorite places for that first Safari exhale.

Just about an hour from Kilimanjaro Airport but it feels like another world. Enjoy calm mornings by the crater lake… gentle walks among birds and butterflies… fresh farm-to-cup coffee before breakfast.

This place resets your rhythm before you dive into the rest of the good stuff!

There’s something so special about watching a family discover Africa together. Wide eyes on game drives, giggles around the fire, those quiet moments when everyone just stops to take it all in.

Planning this Safari for Michelle Ragusa, Jay McBain, and their two beautiful girls was pure joy. Every detail was chosen with them in mind, from where they’d feel most at home to the best guides for curious young minds.

Because when I plan a family Safari, it’s never one-size-fits-all. It’s personal. And it matters deeply to me that your children fall in love with Africa — just like mine did!

Michelle and Jay, thank you for trusting me with this chapter of your family story.

Serian ‘The Original’ is exactly that: original. Timeless tented Safari charm with views over the Mara River and only a handful of other camps in your own private space. Yes please!

Peaceful mornings. Big sky nights. No notifications with deliberate digital detox (wi-fi is limited on purpose). Just you, nature, amazing people to share this space, and some serious Mara North Conservancy magic.

You’ll leave feeling different... in the best way possible.

Winter on Safari = crisp mornings + golden afternoons + cozy campfire evenings.

But don’t be fooled by the sunshine… early game drives can dip into the low 40s°F, especially in places like Botswana or Namibia or the Ngorongoro Crater Rim, Tanzania. Then it warms right up by midday. Layers are your best friend!

Bring that fleece or puffer — you’ll thank me at dusk and dawn.

Winter is starts from May to August in the Southern Hemisphere.

Game drive at sunrise and gliding in a Mokoro by midday. Lions in the long grass… elephants crossing the river right beside you.

Kiri Camp offers everything I love about Botswana: remote beauty, water + land adventures, and wildlife encounters that stay with you long after Safari ends.

Oh, and eco-luxury canvas tents with views for days? Yes please.

Asante sana to Machaba Safaris for the gorgeous images.

Namibia is wild… and Camp Sossus makes it wonderfully personal.

With just six tents and so much sky, this place is all about connection (with nature, with stillness… even with yourself).

You’ve got bucket showers warmed by the sun. Star beds above your room (sleep out there at least one night!). Sunrise hikes into the dunes. Artisan coffee by the fire pit.

And only 30 minutes from those iconic Sossusvlei sandscapes.

Asante sana for the beautiful images and experiences, Ultimate Safaris Namibia ❤

Let’s talk luggage! Local flights on Safari often have strict baggage limits – usually 33 to 45 lbs. total. This includes your carry-on bag and hand luggage.

These little bush planes are amazing for getting you into remote places… but they’re tiny. Soft-sided bags only - no hard suitcases please, as they squish them in the back of the main seating area or under the belly of the plane. Don't take your fancy bag either 😁.

Need a more generous weight allowance? We can make that happen. Just give me the heads-up well in advance of your takeoff!

My Story

Jambo, I am Mefi, owner of Journey To Africa. I am originally from the Safari town of Tanzania. I would love to show you my Tanzania on your Safari but I also plan Safaris to Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, or Zimbabwe - I can be your Safari designer for Eastern and Southern Africa.
