The US Open is in its final act this week, and every year around now a client asks me some version of the same question. What do we do with all this tennis energy once New York goes quiet•
The answer is that the American tennis calendar is much richer than one fortnight in Queens.

There is the desert outside Palm Springs, where the mountains sit behind the stadium and the whole thing unfolds like a two week party with world class tennis attached. There is Miami in the spring, loud and warm and social. And there is Newport, played on historic grass at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, which is as close as we get to Wimbledon on this side of the Atlantic.

Abroad, the requests keep coming for Wimbledon and for Roland Garros, and those two are worth planning further out than most people expect. But the domestic tournaments are the ones I find myself recommending to clients who want the sport without the scramble.

Here is what I tell everyone about tournament travel, and it is the same thing I tell them about a golf trip. It is not really about the tickets. It is about the hotel in the right location, the table you did not have to fight for, and the days built around the matches so that everyone traveling with you has a wonderful week, whether or not they ever sit in the stands.
